Pavelski - Thornton - Marleau

Saw on a fantasy website that Pavelski - Thornton - Marleau is slated to be the first line... IF that's true, how are the rest of the lines gonna look?

Havlat Couture Clowe
McGinn Mitchell Handzus
Desjardins Murray Winchester?

the 4th line is a huge guess.

I personally expect it to be Marleau-Thornton-Couture, Clowe-Pavelski-Havlat.

That's what I'd expect no real reason to separate the chemistry that papa bear baby bear and hopefully mama bear have.

Well Havlat does have those child bearing hips, so I think you may be on to something here...

I'm pretty torn on this. Pavelski is such a good natural center that it feels like a waste to have him playing wing, but Clowe and Couture were arguably the Sharks' best players many nights so splitting them up seems foolish. I'm sure lines will get shuffled around a bit throughout the year so we'll have plenty of opportunity to see how it all plays out. The season really just needs to start so we can all stop rosterbating and watch some damn games.

I don't see any reason to stick Marleau with two "slow" linemates. IMO, Marleau - Havlat should be a given. No reason to break up Couture - Clowe. Pavelski and Couture are the ones who need Clowe protecting them.

Marleau - Thornton - Havlat
Clowe - Pavelski - Couture

The second line is slow as ****, that's why I put Havlat on it. I think it'd be pretty sweet to see Jumbo set up Pavs.

No way of knowing if it's true, but that's how I'd do the line combos if I were pulled off the street and given the head coaching job.

Tend to agree with this, and I'm sure at some point or another we'll see these lines.

I don't like Pavelski on the top line as a winger. He's such a good center that it's a waste of his talents.

I'd switch Pavelski with Couture.

This is how I see it ending up as well.

Either way, Pavs is probably pretty happy going from Mitchell and Wellwood on his wings to playing with any of the 4 guys and I think he's going to put up some very good numbers this year.

The helicopter line lives!

Edit: I guess with Couture, it still would have been a helicopter line...

I'd rather see Havlat skate on a line with Marleau. Both are great skaters, and the speed would make that a tough line to handle.

That would leave the other top line extremely slow unless Mitchell moves into the top six.

I would keep Pavelski and Couture on different lines. IMO they are similar players and would do better with different linemates.

why switch the young one's position? Couture is just as smart, and basically an equal talent. either could play on the top line, but Pavs shoots more and has more experience as a winger. i think it's the right decision. allow Couture to keep learning and growing as a top center.

In EA NHL 11 I have

Marleau-Thornton-Havlat
Clowe-Pavelski-Couture

Works awesome for the video game, real life I'm don't know.

That's my top two lines for EA NHL 11. Works awesome.

Hopefully one of Mitchell or Mcginn (or someone unexpected) shows some real offense this season and gives us more flexibility in the top-6. Mitchell would be my guess, he's got top-6 talent if he could play like he did to close out last season.

I don't mind Pav's on that line because he's pretty balanced as a passer/shooter. He pulls the trigger as often as he see's a clear shot but makes the right play when he doesn't. He is also willing to go to the front of the net which gives Patty time as the player second high; a very dangerous place for him to play. Playing with the smurfs last year, Pav's was too easily moved off the puck drawing larger and defensive coverage. On the wing he will probably draw coverage more equal in size giving him the opportunity to compete.

Where the line will have to grow is with Joe. He's going to have to be ready to take a shot when he gets the puck from Pav's. He's never played on a line where he needed to shoot so that will be interesting to watch.

I know that players have their tendencies, but players including Couture have mentioned more than once that they are trained in the Sharks system to play wing or center depending on how they enter the zone and how the play develops. That doesn't mean JT is going to start shooting more or Marleau is going to start fighting for the puck, but it's not a big deal that Pav's would move to wing on the top line.

This would really be a 3 Center line and this is the stated line to start, so I would think this backs up the above assertion at least in the minds of the coaching staff.
