I don't know how I feel about this line combo, they did nothing tonight.

They were a combined -0... Sounds like they had a solid defensive outing.

It's funny. There will never be a better line than Cheechoo/Jumbo/Ekman.

That line was dominant and wasn't even given the chance to keep going. I always wondered why DW had to mess with a good thing and trade Ekman for nothing. Not to mention both Cheechoo and Ekman were already good before Joe came to town.

except for the fact that line was still dominate without ekman the next year also.

ekman was the replaceable link, and thornton and cheechoo proved it the next season when michalek moved up into the 1st line and thornton scored 114 points, 92 assists, 22 goals. and cheechoo scored 37 goals, 69 points, michalek scored 26 goals, 66 points.

Except ... that IS indeed a drop off in points and quite a substantial one.

Cheechoo went from 56 to 37 goals and his plus minus was cut in half.
Joe had a better plus-minus in his 58 games with the Sharks than the entire following season. Not to mention about 40 more points that season.

Before Jumbo was even in SJ, Ekman was setting the team season plus-minus record. So maybe he was a little underrated. That line did indeed become less productive without him.

Wasn't Thornton injured for a good portion of that season? Not to mention they didn't slot in Michalek until later so who knows how many points they could have had, had they played the whole season together.
