Wade Redden not invited to NY Rangers training camp

http://www.newsday.com/sports/hockey...7?showAll=true

The training camp roster has not yet been announced, but Newsday has confirmed that defenseman Wade Redden, 34, who was waived on Sept. 25 last year and then assigned to the AHL, will not be on it.

Wade is a real nice guy, it's sad to see how his career as gone. If he was making 3 mil a season he would still be playing in the league.

Wade can just, walk away from the Rangers organization and seek employment elsewhere (for much less money, obviously) if he values playing more than his current salary.

I personally wouldn't walk away from 6.5M. I don't blame him for not doing it either.

It's sort of no ones fault really, Rangers had to pay to get him and no one could guess that his decline would be that drastic. The only crappy thing out of this is that Redden wasn't bought out so he could attend another team's camp and try to resurrect his career elsewhere.

His career really is over at this point unless that happens.

At least he's getting paid insane amounts of money to play in the AHL, zero pressure but getting tons of bank.

Pierre Lebrun twitter: "Small world: just ran into Wade Redden here at Pearson Airport. He's in transit en route to Hartford. He's in good spirits."

I would guess it depends on the new CBA...as of right now it wouldn't make much sense as the team has tons of cash and buying Redden out would cost cap space.

Highly doubted. I think they are waiting to see if there is a "free" buy-out in the new CBA.....

Otherwise he is stuck in Hartford until AT LEAST the last year of his contract.

Like someone else said, he could walk away and play somewhere else...

Only if there are compliance buyouts in the next CBA. There's no way the Rangers will take a cap hit for him.

no chance in hell. Wade and the NYR need to hope they allow teams 1 buyout not on the cap as part of the CBA. That would be best for everyone so he can resume his NHL career. I still think he can make it as a 5/6 Dman but that contract is standing in the way. Oh darn making 6.5 million to play in CT, lol

He is not at camp just in case he gets hurt they cant waive him. So he sits until he they are allowed to start waiving players down

That's kinda low, but then again... he doesn't have to work his ass off for a spot he won't get. Redden has the life.

He makes 6.5M a year with the option to leave, sign with another team for the minimum and get back into the NHL

If you feel sorry for him....

Hartford certainly is a step down from New York, though.

Does anyone really think the NHLPA would let him walk away from his contract so he could sign a smaller one somewhere else?

Redden has the option to hold out(which would allow the Ranegrs to file breach of contract) and there would be nothing the NHLPA could do to stop him

This is such a sham. Why can't they at least have the guy at camp. As stated here already, if his salary was half what Sather threw at him, hed be on a team somewhere in the league, but bc he was offered a massive overpayment, he's permanently in the AHL. Pretty weak if you ask me.

While I agree it's kind of no one's fault... the Rangers didn't have to pay him that much and should have seen he was on the decline. In fact, I don't think he was any worse with the Rangers than he was in his last couple years with the Senators. I have a hard time believing there were many similar offers out there for Wade and that they (uncharacteristically ) went after him way too aggressively and made a bad decision.

I disagree. Redden's play dropped off well before the Rangers signed him. That contract was insane.

Yes other teams were bidding similar dollars. It's not like Sather's contract came out of left field. Although I know a lot of people knew it was a mistake.

To be fair, Redden's play dropped off a TON at the time. I don't think anyone could have expected how far he'd fast and how fast it'd happen.

I'm with RogerRoeper - his play had already dropped off significantly and people should definitely have known that he was not a 6.5M player at that point. There's a reason the Sens offered the guy half of that after being a Senator for almost 10 years.

I find it hard to believe that there were other similar offers, and again, if so, they were horribly misguided.

If they bring him back up after waiving him down then any of those teams should be able to grab him at half price. If there was a line up for Wade at 3.25Mill then Sather would do this in a heart beat. I don't think the market is there.
