Jason Bonsignore (no explanation necessary)
Patrick O'Sullivan (so much skill wasted)
Robert Nillson (THAT was the best piece we got for Smyth? Barf)
Jiri Dopita (best player not in the NHL my arse)
Steve Kelly (DOAN, DOAN, DOAN...and the Edmonton Oilers select...Steve Kelly)
Just yesterday I was thinking about a couple of d-men who were always expected to contribute just a little bit more, but didn't quite reach that potential, so they're at the top of my list.
- Chris Joseph
- Geoff Smith
- Scott Mellanby (centrepiece of the Kurri deal, but was far more effective everywhere else he played)
- Jimmy Carson (100 point player in 88/89 regular season- had 3 points in a high scoring playoff round. The first high profile player to want out of Edmonton)
- Louie Debrusk (expected to be a serious heavyweight contender who could also play a little- never reached that potential)
Seriously? How could he not be the most disappointing player? My body still oozes bile whenever I even think of him.
edit: Looked at I am the Liquor's list.
Well, the way I see it, his play was far from disappointing. He led us to game 7 of the SCF. His trade request (the manner in which it was done) afterwards was certainly disappointing to say the least, but he was amazing as an Oiler. Hence not being on many lists - but I understand your slant on it.
Chris Pronger - We had a team built around him and he wants out because of drama outside of hockey?!?!
Nikolai Khabiboulin - Back pains, drunk driving, doing worse than DD(a rookie)
Robbie Schremp - Everyone and my mother had this guy pegged as someone to look forward to. Bust!
Dustin Penner - Penner had one good year at the end where I liked him. But losing Smyth for Penner was just hurtful
Sheldon Souray - Was looking forward to him being a great Oiler. Guess not!
Or MacTavish for having Conklin on the bench instead of Juice in the first place.
That's the argument that I've always made so I'll warn you about the people who will respond and say their stats were equally ****** at the time so really how were you supposed to choose one over the other.
To me it was simple. Conklin always looked like **** during the year and Juice always looked more poised when between the pipes.
