Is a younger Bails more important that and older Frans? And obviously Bails would have more value than Frans at that point because of age, contract value, etc... BUT until that happens Frans is the chip that will be used to land a #1 in my mind. If the isles sign Frans long term, I still think Frans goes because his value and contract maybe enticing to a team who wants stability and control of the player (i.e. LA Kingers)
Supposedly, they're trying to work out another long-term extension for Frans. I doubt they'll move him.

Why do we always want to trade away our best players??? Both Blake and Frans have continued on a steady upward plane and are great defensivley while Bails and PA aren't even close in any catergory..

PAP is gone one way or another after this season. Either they trade him in-season if someone else steps up their play or they just let him go in the off-season. Bailey, I'm not so sure. He's got a two year deal, but I don't know that he gets the benefit of all two years if he completely stinks up the joint this year or another prospect starts coming on strong between now and next season.

On the other hand, Comeau needs to be consistent this season otherwise I believe he'll be in another team's jersey next year as well.

I think Frans is here long term. Ideally a 3rd line center, and one of the better defensive forwards in the league, he's a place holder in the 2C spot until either Bailey blossoms or Strome is ready to make the jump. He's also a total team guy and not looking to break the bank with his next contract (as long as he gets a fair deal). These are all reasons as to why management is probably totally in love with him.

They're not going to trade Frans, unless of course, Snow is blown away by a trade proposal. The Isles know what they've got in him...and he is arguably one of the best all-around players on this team. He got votes for Selke, led the league in shorthanded goals, and is a great player to use in a shootout. Not to mention the fact that he is the guy to put out against an opposing team's top line. I don't think we have another player truly ready for that role.

Thing is, Frans has alot of value to the Islanders...but I don't think he has nearly as much value to other teams. I'm sure teams would love to have him...but then again, it wouldn't be at the Isles price.

Bailey's got more offensive upside, much better talent level but Frans is far more polished, consistent and valuable at this stage. I think Bailey will ultimately be a better player but that's far from a guarantee.

I think the NYI need both of them. When it comes time that Strome and Nelson are ready for an NHL job - well (hopefully), that will be a very nice problem to have.

Why do we need to trade? How about we just keep our good players.

I am not saying PAP goes or PAP stays but until Bails shows this type of production, PAP will not go anywhere.
I think Frans could go or could stay, I would like him to stay for Nino's protege and the tools frans has.

Saying all this, when I am a team wanting to make a trade, I look at the value of the players. Frans has more value right NOW than any other center (outside of JT) on this team.
When creating a package for a #1 Defenseman, you have to give up something of value to get what you want. If Bails grows this year, Frans and Bails will both be in conversations for packages to other teams for a #1 defenseman, just an opinion.

I've been searching for training camp updates regarding how the young guys are looking (Nino, Strome, Kabanov, etc.) but can't seem to find anything. Can anyone help me out?

Yeah, Cappy seems to be really serious in getting these guys into game shape. I expect there to be a few minor injuries. It's just when we start seeing terms like "torn" and "reconstructive surgery"...then we need to be a little worried.

Numerical Camp Roster

I can't believe the Isles didn't post this on their website... the list of players is fine, but anyone have a numerical camp roster?

Hey guys, Habs fan here, I was wondering for my hockey pool, should I take Nabokov or DiPietro as my second goaler? Not of lot of the other poolers remembers that Nabokov is back in the NHL, but I want to know it for sure that he has chances to be the #1 goalie for the Isles. Thks.

To be honest, take someone else. Avoid them both.

Yeah....Nabokov in horse racing terms is a 35-1; DiPietro is what that loud blast behind the stables was.

Sore wrists could be an issue considering its to a player that has had wrist surgery.

As other Islander fans pointed out I would avoid any Islanders goalie at this point in time. I personally don't see any Islander goalie this year playing over 45 games.

Kabanov is bound for the "Q" anyway, BUT, it would be nice to see him in some exhibition action, see how far he has come from last year, which I believe is far. Looked great in the rookie games, no lateness issues, The young man is growing up. I hope he gets healthy enough to play a full season in the "Q", and tears it up.

Also, Russian hockey fans may know more, so I'm asking, has Kabanov completely burned bridges with Russia ?, or would they possibly want him for the WJC ?, which I believe he'd still be eligible for.
