If Carcillo only had 8 majors, he played about 30 games this season. His last 4 years are 19 (57 games), 22 (74 games), 17 (76 games), 13 (57 games)

I expect him to reign it in this year, but good point, I'll change mine to 12.

Not so sure about that...the Hawks have made it clear why he was brought in. Fighting majors are fine...it's the cheap shots and stupid penalties he needs to avoid.

Exactly. Fighting majors aren't a problem but he can't be getting dumb penalties that put his team down a man.

Yeah, that's true. We shall see. I don't mind fighting majors either, but at the same time, I like Carcillo's game when he's on the ice playing hockey. I hope for a breakout year offensively from him but not so much that he's a fixture in the top 6 (a bit of a concern with Q). He has the talent to do some damage from the bottom 6 and help allow us to roll 4.

Also keep in mind that with Carcillo's history, he will be taking some dumb penalties. But he also will be goating the opponents in to dumb penalties as well. If it is even close to being a wash, then it's a huge win for the Hawks because our skill guys will have a little more freedom like they did in 09-10.

Timing is everything. Take cheap shots at the end of the games, draw retaliatory penalties at the beginning the next time we play that team.

I sure do wish we had Carcillo last season against the Canucks. He's the kind of player that can get under their skin and also be an intimidating force taking runs at guys.

I know. When I think about that series, I can't get the images out of my head of Toews and others getting pounded into the boards in games 1 and 2 and knowing we had nobody that could do that to them. Watching Scott try to catch guys with his weak foot speed made it even worse. That won't be an issue next time.

Same with Mayers to a lesser extent. We just didn't have any guys last year that could repeatedly run their defenseman on dump ins like Boston did. It could be a coincidence, but it seemed once the Bruins put Thornton in the lineup it changed everything. It seems like real physical players were able to demoralize the Canucks last year. I thought the Canucks were noticeably less physical once the Hawks started dressing Scott.

The Canucks can give it, but they can't take it. You're absolutely right about the SCF. Boston did a great job of pressuring their d-men and they handled the puck like a grenade when they were doing that. It was a joy to watch that forcheck at work. I hate the Canucks and wanted them to lose, but I almost screamed at my TV watching them trying to re-gain possesion and get the puck out.

54 starts, assuming no injuries, would likely mean one of two things. Crawford is struggling, which I don't see happening or our back-up goalie is impressing Q..... and that would be welcomed going into the playoffs. I think in this day and age you prefer to not have your goalie playing in more than 60 regular season games to keep fresh for the post season, with a reliable back-up in your pocket.

This. And the fact that they signed Salak to a 2 year deal in the offseason makes me think they either A) Are getting more confident in him or B) Are getting less confident in Crawford. Either one means more starts for Salak. Along with what you said about the different approaches teams have now for goalies and the playoffs.
