2011 Dallas Stars Training Camp

Stars are in PEI for training camp. Not too much information coming out, seems Mark isn't doing play by play Twitter updates yet.

There are some videos out of Ralph doing some interviews.

Robidas: http://video.stars.nhl.com/videocent...ole?catid=1092

Dillon: http://video.stars.nhl.com/videocent...ole?catid=1092

Campbell: http://video.stars.nhl.com/videocent...ole?catid=1092

Morrow: http://video.stars.nhl.com/videocent...ole?catid=1092

Gulutzan audio: http://dallasstarspr.files.wordpress...lutzancamp.m4a

Dillon seems very down to earth. A good interview.

Will be interesting to see how the pairings look and Groups later when presumably Mark or will give us some updates.

I wonder how many other teams hold their camp someplace different from where they're based.

I liked the bit of news that Nieuwendyk spoke to the team about Skrastins and there was a video tribute during the first team dinner last night.

Well the Stars have been running their camps out-of-state for a while now, haven't they?

Ralph was talking a bit about it on his blog:

http://stars.nhl.com/club/news.htm?i...id=DL|DAL|home

Quote:
Getting away for training camp is an advantage. In the glory years the Dallas Stars would go to Vail or Breckenridge and mix practice and teaching and formal and informal team-building exercises for the purpose of getting body and mind back in shape for the new season. This time was critical. New players would ease in with the current team and become a part of the Stars’ culture. These years were followed by holding the fall ritual in Frisco. But that was like outpatient treatment. I mean – how integrated can your group get if each player showed up in his own car in the morning and a few hours later returned to his home and deal with the usual daily business of family obligations?
And again in his interview with Morrow. I agree the training camp away from the comforts of home is a better bonding experience.

Well this is just the 2nd year of going out of town. There was a fairly long period of staying home for camp before Joe brought things back to the way they were done when he was a player here.

It's just that I look around at other teams' boards and all I see are camps happening at their normal respective practice facilities. I must be missing some. Can the Stars be the only team that does this? If so, that seems like a story to me, especially since they speak about it as if it's a competitive advantage to a certain degree. You'd think that'd be something other teams would take note of.

Nice interview. Ralph has an easygoing demeanor that gets the young guys to open up a bit. It seems like Shane Churla played a large role in identifying and landing Dillon.

Hmm, I must've thought their stops in Vail were full camps, or at least partial.

I'm not sure why you wouldn't. It makes for an amazing atmosphere, and you get a very close team (most of the time).

Pre-Nieuwy? Weird, feels more recent than that.

They brought the full training camp to Frisco when they opened the StarCenter up there, so.., 2003 maybe?

Anybody find the Godard funny funny? It just seems like didn't have much to say

That Godard interview was painful to watch, I had to turn it off when he couldn't think of a reason why he thought Dallas was a good place to play. Clearly goons don't do PR for a reason, lol.

intersquad scrimmage going to be getting underway pretty soon here. Hopefully we'll get some nice updates on how it goes.

I'd really like Brendan Dillon to somehow storm his way onto the team. Loved what I saw from him in the prospect tournament.

Really think he's the right coach for this franchise.

Am excited to see how it translates onto the ice.

Wathier ties it up. Pardy and Souray on a D pairing together. Ott-Benn-Loui a line too.

Apparently Robidas and Glennie are dinged up and not playing.

Seriously Glennie? How many training camps are you going to sit out. Christ.

3-3 now.

Benn gets a power move on net and Ott cleans up the rebound on Bachman to tie it 2-2. Then Fiddler beats Bachman on a Penalty Shot. Morrow then ties it on Campbell to make it 3-3.

nice to see some of the big name guys getting in on the action

I like Fiddler and Dvorak on the same line. They're both guys that can play the tough minutes if need be but can also provide some offense when matched up with weaker opposition. Hope they build some chemistry together!

I know it's just a scrimmage, but it's good to see Fidds and Dvorak putting up points. Excited about these two

I was at this game, just happened to be in my hometown and someone gave me free tickets..

it definitely lacked intensity..Didn't look like a game where guys were trying to make an impression to land a job..that being said there were a few standouts..Fiddler looked very good, fast and was on his game. Benn is a superstar in the making, kid was easily the best player on the ice, he was impressive. Goligoski made some nice plays, one sick one where he cranked on the jets and broke through the defence to setup Morrow with a slick pass..I don't know the team very well or any prospects but Vincour was a guy I noticed quite a bit..seemed to show some real flashes of speed and skill. This kid Oleksiak is huge..He looked pretty quick on his feet for his size..

no big hits, no fights, boys seemed like they might of had a late night last night

Ryder missed in the SO, get use to that this season..
