That's good news Leopold's a good defenseman and he's really young in a few years he'll be a workhorse for the flames.

Leopold was just on the radio (Fan 960), say the deal is worth 1.2 mill for 1 year.

Sweet. Only 3 players left.

1) Kipper
2) Phaneuf
3) Iginla

Not an easy task.

Good for Calgary, they needed that,
btw in some years we will put that in the worst trade ever thread!!

The Flames acquired Leopold from the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim on September 26, 2000 in exchange for Andrei Nazarov and a second round choice in the 2001 Entry Draft. Leopold was drafted by the Mighty Ducks in the second round, 44th overall, in the 1999 Entry Draft.

It was subsequently traded to Washington and used to select Matt Pettinger.

the flames probably won't sign Phaneuf this season. they seem to have enough depth at D to justify not signing him yet (that is, unless they trade Gauthier)

Nope. You must be thinking of the Giguere 2nd rounder that we traded to Washington for Elomo.

The pick that was traded in the Leopold deal was traded to Phoenix for Keith Carney. Then Phoenix dealt the pick back to Calgary to move up a few spots in the 2001 draft to select Fredrik Sjostrom. Calgary then selected Andrei Taratukhin with the 2nd rounder.

"26-Sep-00: Mighty Ducks of Anaheim traded Jordan Leopold to the Calgary Flames for Andrei Nazarov and a 2nd round selection in 2001 (Andrei Taratukhin)."

No problem. Just put non-important Mike Ryder in a small little envelope, send him on this way, and the deal'll be done like dinner!

I think Pettinger was the pick that Calgary traded to get Vernon?
I'm not sure anybody know?

The Flames traded Dan Cavanaugh to get Vernon.

I'm pretty sure that the Flames traded a 2nd rounder to WSH for Miika Elomo and that was the pick the Caps used to select Pettinger. The Flames got this 2nd rounder from the Ducks via the Giguere deal.

This is what I found on Elomo:

Quote:
Washington's 2nd pick in the 1995 Entry Draft (23rd Overall). Traded to Buffalo by Washington and a 4th round draft pick in 2000 Entry Draft for a 2nd round draft pick in 2000 Entry Draft, June 24, 2000. Signed as a free agent by Calgary, August 4, 2000.

No.

Jordan Leopold was traded to Calgary by Anaheim for Andrei Nazarov and Calgary's 2nd round pick (later traded to Phoenix - later traded back to Calgary - Calgary selected Andrei Taratukhin) in 2001 Entry Draft, September 26, 2000.

What you found doesn't appear to be correct. I was at the draft that year and we definitely traded for him. You're right about the 4th rounder being in the deal though (turned out to be Levente Szuper IIRC). But he certainly wasn't dealt to Buffalo, that should read "Calgary".

I will backup that the Flames delt a 2nd round pick (Matt Pattinger, at the time a Calgary Hitman) for Miika Elomo.

God I hated that trade

Not Ryder obviously but I'd like the flames and habs find a deal that would bring Gauthier to montreal. I don't know what would be good for the flames though, last year Garon would of been a good choice but now you guys have Kipper and Garon's gone. One thing for sure you guys are stacked at the D and the habs have a lot of forwards/prospects. Maybe they could find a deal.

I personally don't think it'd take too much. I don't know what Gauthier is making, I'm sure it isn't much, but the Flames could stand to cut some payroll. They clearly don't need Gauthier as they have one of the best (and youngest) bluelines in town. On top of that, his normal value probably isn't all that much, anyhow.

Gauthier won't return until Christmas. By then, at least one of Warrener, Regehr, Leopold, Lydman, Montador, Commodore or Ference is likely to be injured.

Gauthier's making 1.6 and 1.75 on a 2 year deal, and the Flames may ned 'need' Gauthier but at the same time they certainly aren't in a 'need' to move him. A decent prospect or a 2nd round pick would do the trick IMO.

Leopold's making 950K next year as per NHLPA.
