TV schedule - Updated; TSN To Get Broadcast Rights

Just browsing over the schedule and I have one concern. There are 18 Saturday night games and only one of them is against a Canadian team. As you know CBC holds the exclusive broadcast rights to air the NHL on Saturday.

Will Manitoba TV viewers get screwed out of a quarter of the games? There's no chance CBC shows a Jets game over the Leafs.

What I think will happen is that the Jets games will be shown regionally only not nationally

The home games...possibly. 9 of them are on the road though and I doubt they send a TV crew down to the US for such a small market. I'd be satisfied with the American feed but I don't recall CBC ever picking one up.

Even if CBC doesnt show it... whom ever the Jets sign as their broadcaster will most certainly show it. Sounds like at 82 games will be on TV.

The reason for that stems from the scheduling issues with us getting a team so late. They would have had to also schedule Atlanta for a Hockey Day in Canada game, which obviously doesnt make sense. It's not a big deal IMO.

There were only 11 games not televised last year, and those were mostly southern teams playing southern teams. Some of you seriously think, in the first season of the new Jets history, a game won't be televised? This isn't 1996, you'll be able to watch all of them somewhere.

Ya, sorry, the emphasis was supposed to be on national. To the best of my knowledge the local rights holder can still broadcast within their assigned market.

The only thing that kinda sucks about CBC carrying those games regionally on Saturday nights is that it will be in SD.

Hard to be too upset, you know considering we just got a friggin NHL team back

maybe afternoon games since, if i recall correct, last season it was stated that if a saturday game were played in the afternoon and cbc decided to pass then tsn could still broadcast it nationally.

I have never seen TSN show a Saturday game, other then in the playoffs.

me neither - but i guess the mechanisms are in place. i would imagine that cbc would rather broadcast the game than let tsn take it.

Only if they are before a certain time in the afternoon. I don't know the exact time, but evening games are off limits to anyone but the CBC...if they don't show you, you are out of luck unless you can get a US feed on Centre Ice (that's not regionally blacked out). Ottawa used to have a lot of games not televised due to CBC's monopoly on Saturday night, but to their credit they have picked up a lot of games in recent years (both home and away) and shown them regionally. Hopefully they will do the same for the Jets. A lot of people across the country these days would get CBC Winnipeg on satellite or digital cable for time shifting, so it would be nice to have another Saturday Night option there.

I think we are sitting pretty on Saturday nights, since virtually all our games (home and away) start at 6:00pm, which is the first game of HNIC. I don't think the schedule maker would have us playing at 6pm on Saturday in American markets just "for fun."

Just a reminder to avoid people getting confused. T I M E Z O N E S. The following are all one and the same
  • 4:00 PM Pacific (Vancouver)
  • 5:00 PM Mountain (Edmonton/Calgary)
  • 6:00 PM Central (Winnipeg)
  • 7:00 PM Eastern (Toronto/Ottawa/Monreal)
  • 8:00 PM NB/NS/PEI and most of Labrador
  • 8:30 PM Newfoundland Time (island of Newfoundland and a small strip of Labrador immediately adjacent to the Strait of Belle Isle)
  • I give up on NU and NT. See NRC website
Everyone please append timezones to times in your posts. This board is read by a lot of people in different timezones.

CBC (winnipeg) will be going digital/OTA end of August
so, anything broadcast on CBC local to winnipeg, will be in HD
by using a regular antenna or shaw/mts/bell will have them broadcast in HD once th change over is completed ( much like Global TV winnipeg is now HD )

Not to mention that cbc.ca netcasts all of their games.
