Byron Dafoe would be a great replacement for Trevor Kidd.

Literally.

In the role of a guy who tends to let through a lot of pucks at times, and takes a spot which could also be used for Mikael Tellqvist?

Apparantly Belfour's could have a bulging disk in his back, and if he opts for surgery, he'd be out for 8 weeks.

Not a legit source, but just passing it along... http://mb3.theinsiders.com/ftorontom...ID=11182.topic

8 weeks is still.....

I doubt a week or two of a season that starts on time with Telly starting would be a big loss, he's a big boy now

Would Dafoe want to be a backup though? I think it's smarter to go after Weekes. He's better and I think would be willing to take a backup roll in TO if he gets his chance to prove himself. If he signs with TO for 3 years, and Belfour is gone in 1 or 2, the Leafs could have themselves a number one and there won't be a gap after the Eagle retires.

Watters said today that Belfour might have to surgery for his back & Leafs were looking for another goaltender. He said Weekes is off the market & is going to the Rangers. He said Dafoe is a possibility because JFJ was interested in him at the deadline.

No chance... ever. If they're going to get a back-up, which I doubt, they'd be better off with Kidd.

Exactly.

Also in the sense that they both players who used to be decent goaltenders, but are now overweight has-beens leeching off their past success.

Gives us a chance to recycle that great beachball avatar.

Otherwise, not very helpful.

Better Potvin than Defoe.

Better to give Telly a decent chance than Potvin.

Although it would be nice to see the cat in a Toronto uniform again. I liked that guy back in the day. Tellqvist is probably a better move for the organization tho.

If Belfour takes the surgery option, and I say he should if it's that serious..
1. Is the season going to start in early October? hate to say it - not likely
2. Say it does, 8 weeks, well Mr. Tellqvist, this is what you've been training for, here's the reigns.. Tellqvist looked just fine in his 8? starts last year and I say they ride out Belfour's rehab with the guy whose, for now, the heir. This is a strong enough team that they're still going to win the majority of those games, I feel it would be the best move. They don't need to bring in anyone or, DEFINITELY don't trade assets for a goaltender. I mean, JFJ said, barring a poor camp, Telly WOULD be the backup - so he'll be backing up then right? I say show faith in the guy - if he doesn't cut it then make a move after a trial period. Give Telly the ball and let him run with it.

im backing telly up. i was impressed by his 7 game unbeaten streak. he will sooner or later come up huge for us. I will still be comfortable giving him the nod if eddie gets injured anytime ( i hope not ), therefor giving him the backup role. He makes amazing saves...big saves. am i wrong?

Da"fat" is awful please do not mention his name again on these boards before somebody thinks its a good idea. He would be a nightmare at less than a bargain price.

I'm not so sure that Dafoe would be signed as a starter.I'm thinking more along the lines of an insurance policy.Telly should still get the starters job with Dafoe or whomever as the backup.Dont forget we have nobody in the minors that has shown the potential to even be an nhl backup.
