I'd rather Redden be on our 3rd pairing than some of the other names being thrown around (Mara).

I know this is all hypothetical, but wouldn't Redden have to come through re-entry? do you risk having to pay him half if a team is willing to take him for the other half?

No. I don't know why people are even mentioning him.

Are you insane? We'd have to bear that cost not just for this year but for the next number of years if he is claimed.

I'm not saying it's a good idea or that it's going to happen, just that it's a mathematical possibility. I'd personally just sign Mara.

Well, what ever it is, they have to do something by ideally tomorrow.

Im worried, to say the least.

Im hoping the offense can take ALOT of pressure off the defense and Lundqvist.

Yeah forgot about that...
I agree.

What I proposed on the main forum, and its not ideal - but is a decent band-aid is:

Komisarek
Finger

for
Redden
3rd

The salaries roughly even out. Finger would play in Hartford. Komisarek could add a much needed veteran presence to our blueline. If he is awful, he goes to Hartford...

They've made their move already - it's Erixon. Being in Europe and having a time restraint severly limits their overall ability to make a significant move. Anything like that will be done after Europe.

I'm confident in the offense and Hank.

My only fear is that we're going to get exhausted by whatever lines McD-Sauer aren't dealing with.

Komiserek is a lump who has multiple years left on his contract at an indecent cap hit and a NMC. Redden costs us nothing against the cap where he is now.

I'm still trying to figure out if you were serious or not

We can't afford to have him miss any amount of time.

Boggles my mind that people don't think Staal's concussion issue is anything major and is just something to be laughed off.
Never once did I say it isn't anything major, nor did I ever even imply it should be "something to be laughed off". Over react much?

Any type of head injury is a serious condition, period. My post was in reference to the amount of time he will be missing. The only news we have seen recently is that he will not play in the first two games, followed by a vague statement saying he could miss a month. With that little amount of information the posters claiming he will miss several months has no merit behind it. At this point it is pure speculation.

Staal is a very important piece to lose and without him our defense is much worse; I'm not denying that.

I still think it's very premature to peg him out for several months when we know so little.

I didn't know about the NMC. I thought it was a limited NTC.
If it was a limited no trade, I don't think it would be a big deal - because he could be sent down easily. I understand though with the NMC that its a bad idea.

Him being out for awhile is not far fetched. At this point, Staal coming back sooner rather than later is. Going by what we've been told the last couple of weeks about his condition, when they say "At least a month" it probably means that and a bit more. You can stick your head in the sand and Baghdad bob it all you want but it doesn't change the reality of the situation.

I was referring to amount of time he would miss, not the severity of the injury.

My post you quoted was very vague, my apologies.

I agree, if anything people are undervaluing what losing Staal for an extended period of time means. He is #2 on te can't get injured list for sure.

And wins at the beginning of the season are worth the same as those at the end. Haven't we learned that throughout the years?

I'm worried.

We heard nothing about this before camp, then it was "oh he might miss a few preseason games, no big deal."

Then it was "well maybe we'll fly him to Europe a few days after the team, just to be safe, natch!"

Then "he'll miss two measly regular games, big deal."

Now "he might be out a month."

Fast forward a bit:

"Hoping for a February return!"

"Might make it back for the playoffs, if we squeak in."

Lundqvist better have his big boy pants on this season.

Our defense is bottom 5 in the NHL for sure without him. Del Zotto up against top lines is going to be ugly with a capital U.
