with his stats remember the years he played--

shot gun hockey and 15 goals a game was a regular thing

look at the numbers from Pat Hickey duing this time

Mike McEwen scored 20 goals in NY

he was more famous for his then wife Carol Alt and his "lifestyle" at the time

Sure did. One of the rarities in that he played for a single team throughout a fairly long & illustrious career, 74-90 for the Rangers. Wasnt a "superstar" but he was solid, dependable & responsible, consistent & creative offensively, PP specialist on the point, great wheels, put up some decent numbers as youve observed; overshadowed by his contemporaries while in his prime, Park, Orr etc. He'd slowed down a fair bit by the mid-80's, providing guidance to the next generation, most notably Brian Leetch when he came into the league. One of the most popular players of all time in New York.... then there was his "lifestyle" thingy going on, married SuperModel/Actress Carol Alt (since divorced, he's re-married with kids retired to Florida)...

WHL D, mid 1970's when everydefenceman who could skate was trying to play like Bobby Orr. Very good offensively, poor defensively until Fred Shero coached the Rangers. Then improved to acceptable. Played forward at times but would flounder against the better teams especially defensively.

Injury plagued after 1981.

As others have mentioned, Greschner was slick.

Scoring 20 goals during 4 seasons (even in the run and gun era) is impressive, and the Ranger's needed him to carry a big load offensively. His lack of an overall game though certainly hurt his place in the league.

Greschner's back woes derailed him. A seriously bad disc totally wrecked the tail end of his career.

He even tried an experimental process where some type of papaya extract was injected into the disc to try and dissolve it.
