He did. I would think that this is to replace Nikolishin and Barnaby together more than Forsberg. Damphousse is nowhere near that quality anymore.

Maybe they have some wonderkids in their system?

He had a disappointing season, but stepped up his game in the playoffs, and in SJ's franchise-best playoff run, 7-7-14 in 17 playoff games and solid clutch play. He helped his cause, albeit at the end.

Provided the money is moderate, certainly less than his $4M salary last season, I think it's a good move.

Goc and Michalek are expected to be full-timers now.

I wonder what LaCroix paid. It shouldn't be anyhting over 3 million, that's for sure.

if that. Vinny D shouldn't be getting more than 2.5 at this stage of his career. Not to be a third line center.

I suspect this means something...maybe Forsberg isn't coming back.

This is a good signing for the Avs, Damphousse is a good leader and he really stepped up his game for the Sharks in the playoffs when the team needed it. It's only a 1 year 2 million deal so it's not so bad for the Avs. Put Damphousse with guys like Hejduk and Tanguay and he's still capable of reaching 60 points.

the thing is, he wont be playing with those guys.

people are saying he is a 3rd line center now, but what about gratton?

does this deal act as a safety net if forsberg doesnt come back?

Well, he is 37, but hes nothing short of useful. Had an awesome playoff run and had playoff numbers this year that 90% of players would've liked. At 2 million, I dont think they overpaid. Good price for what he can do for the team.

Well, I dont think the Avs will replace Forsberg with Damphousse, but its obvious he isn't coming back.

IMO, Colorado should trade for a guy like Gomez, who is in no way Forsberg, but would be one of the better hole fillers around.

I don't know in SJ, but I do know Damphousse played the wing pretty well back in the days. So even if Forsberg comes back and even with Gratton in the mix, there are options. He's definitly becoming a less important player, he's getting up in age but he has performed well over the years with very minimal hype.

I think he's been underrated. You never hear a word about him and it took him a great while to slow down. That's a long career he's had playing very good hockey. Depending on the salary, this is a great move.

You would have to give up a lot for Gomez. He led the league in assists last year and is a very good playmaker. What he doesn't get in goals he makes up by setting up players like Elias.

Yeah, well what are you sending back to NJ to replace Gomez, a 70 point, league-leading assist man who only makes 2.9M?

are they going to try and play him or Gratton on the wing? with Sakic, Forsberg, and Gratton down the middle i don't see the need for him. Gratton could play 4th line center i guess, but it's a waste at $1.5 million. i'd see Hendrickson more suitable for that role.

Rumor is Lacoix gave San Jose Wolski and Boychuk because he thought he had too many prospects in the system.

Didn't have a good season this year but could probably still chip in 50 points. He'd be a good third line player (second line if Forsberg doesn't return) and play a little on the power play.

Tanguay-Forsberg-Hejduk
Konowalchuk-Sakic-Svatos
Gratton-Damphousse-Laperriere
Laaksonen-Hahl-Hinote

if it's really 1 year for $2 mil, then the sharks really missed out. i'm trying to have faith in doug wilson's plan and the sharks young veterans and upcoming rookies, but come playoff time the theyre really gonna miss damphousse and ricci. vinny may not be able to put up first-line numbers anymore, but with good linemates he could still be a solid 2nd liner, or 3rd liner playing with checkers.

A salary of $2M (check TSN's updated story for a link) is an excellent bargain for Colorado. Nice GM move.
