You have to admit, while he doesn't provide much, there are far worse enforcers and he is a much better option than Ivanans was. He probably earned the head office's loyalty after his great playoff performance. I am fine with him being with the team for a while if Murray is adamant about carrying a heavyweight enforcer. Westgarth is pretty smart and his skating is getting better, also you couldn't ask for a better character in the locker room.

ye dont mind this, he played like a solid 4th liner in the playoffs (as opposed to just being an enforcer). Hopefully he throws his weight around more this year and gets in people faces more often
Interesting signing. I'm curious to see if he can build off that solid playoff series he had against SJ. I don't expect him to suddenly be an offensive dynamo, but he looked actually good with the puck and had two assists in six games. Maybe he has 15+ point potential over a full season, which would be nice for an enforcer?
In all seriousness, Westy is a sound man, a really good guy in the locker room and in general. Personally I am losing faith in the value of an enforcer but Murray is not. Even after Clifford lit a few people up, he said that did not affect his decision to continue dressing Westgarth with some regularity.
He's not Tiger Williams but he's not a total lop out there either, plus he's making an effort to improve to where he can do his job without hurting his team on a somewhat regular shift. I liked his contribution against San Jose very much, that was his best hockey of the year and he did the scarecrow thing, no one on the Sharks wanted to go with him.

u know, i like this signing. tho westy has not shown me much in his ability to enforce and intimidate...hes a great TEAM player and a great 'glue' guy. his playoff performance last yr really impressed me. hopefully he'll cont it....and maybe win more of his fights outright.
Hopefully they will increase his ice time to over 3:47 per game during the season so he can continue to develop and bring the game we saw him play in the playoffs more consistently. If he plays around 9mins per game on average I think he will be both an effective enforcer and also an acceptable fourth line talent.
