8-0 final for UNB over Dal in each team's 1st exhibition game played in Port Hawkesbury, NS (just across the causeway in Cape Breton). Nick MacNeil, from nearby Criegnish, NS, scored twice to open scoring in 1st period and Jordan Clendenning scored twice in the third period.
It is only the first exhibition game, but folks were worried about UNB scoring?!

I wouldn't order the Rings just yet. It's exhibition and it's Dal.
I understand that several Dal guys missed the trip because of classes. Engineering, Pharmacy and Med School students. I don't know who they were.
Well that could include Francois Gauthier, Ronald Kelly, Benoit Gervais, Jordan Villeneuve-Gagné and some of their new transfers-in. Significant depending how many were missing.
Pretty good tilt for exhibition game. Newcomers Beaton, Heelis and Choinard impressed me. Heelis and Choinard have great speed and should be fun to watch this year. Acadia will have a good test tonight when they play SMU.

AUS Fan, can you chime in with any information on the Magnardi situation? SMU or UNB, what are you hearing. Steiny must have thought he had him in early summer to name him as a recruit.

what's the deal with this guy? I'm reading he originally planned to go to SMU, changed his mind to opted for UNB and then got pissed off because they announced him as one of their recruits, and now is back to SMU? if this is indeed the case, the team that gets him will turn out the loser. Nobody wants a guy like that around, regardless if he can score goals or whatever. This guy sounds like a team cancer ready to do its damage.
I was talking to one of the assistant coaches this evening and brought up the subject. He didn't know much about the ongoing soap opera. I didn't ask Stieny about it; we were talking about the Cal-Aca game. I was talking to him this summer and he did say that Magnardi had "commited" to SMU. The general consensus is that he may get a contract and the issue will be moot.
Agreed - certainly a good measuring stick. It's a tough year for CW with only one team going to Nationals. I would expect CAL, UMAN and ALB to be there at the end - home ice will very important.
UNB wins 2-0 over Calgary in a game played Saturday night in the small community of Fredericton Junction, 30-40 minutes south of Fredericton. Good hard-nosed game more like a regular season AUS game than an exhibition game in September. Dan LaCosta got the shutout for UNB while Kris Lazaruk and Jacob DeSerres split the nets for Calgary.
Jordan Clendenning scored for UNB in the 2nd period and Antoine Houde-Caron added an empty netter late in third period. New V-Red Tyler Carroll did not dress - he was on the receiving end of a Walker Wintoneak blindside hit away from the play in the 3rd period of Saturday's game that the referee missed.
