If you're hoping to get a franchise player out of your top 10 pick Schiefele is your man. As many have stated, this guy could be an absolute steal at 7 if he pans out. He had a small sample size so it is an overall risky pick. If you're just hoping to get an impact player with your top 10 pick, Zibanejad is your man. To me this guy is a money in the bank second line centre. The real debate with Z is what type of second line centre he'll become, is he a Ryan Kesler type of centre with grit and offensive flair or is he more of a Patrice Bergeron type with limited offensive talented but still possessing solid second line centre skills, great defensively and on face-offs.

It's pretty obvious Marky boy is proving a lot of nerds like us wrong who are married to TSN"s top 30 guys.

And Zbad is going to be a 4th line player.

See I can play that game also. But seriously, if you guys drafted Couturier, I bet you would be saying the same thing about how Z will never make it, 3rd line player at best, etc etc. I really like Z and think he is going to be a good player, but try to be alittle less bias please.
I agree.....Couturier really shouldn't have fell to where he did....i don't know what ottawa and the jets were thinking. you gotta go with the best player available

Obviously they took who THEY thought was the best player... If they thought Couturier was BPA he would have been taken earlier....

I wanted Zibanejad at 7, but I'm happy with Scheifele. He's looking like a really good pick at this point, but it's easy to get blinded by a good preseason game so at this point I'm only cautiously optimistic.

Which is what the Jets did .

Evander Kane , Blake Wheeler , Bryan Little , Tobias Enstrom , Ron Hainsey all didn't play in Winnipeg. So maybe not equal split but not an A team and A B team .

Ziba all week and twice on Sunday. Significantly more upside, in my opinion.

Mika i actually had him in my top 5 personally and predicted him going to the sens at 7, another guy that just blazed through the rankings about mid year
I don't get this mentality. The difference between 7 to like 12 is insignificant given the draft class. Now, if he was projected from 20-30, thats a different story.

Love it when hf posters don't understand the subjectivity in determining the bpa.

You got that right.

I also think you win the 'spell all three names correctly' award.

He was quite mediocre tonight, but that was a great one-timer.

He wasn't mediocre in the 3rd and onward.

Zibanejad's got all the tools he just needs to get his feet wet...watching the Swede's it's clear they feel a little congested on the smaller ice.

I think both teams got the appropriate player for their respective organizations. Ottawa already has Spezza and was in major need to upgrade their speed and strength in the top six. Z fills that role nicely.

Winnipeg needed high end skill to complement the two way guys already in the top 6 and Mark looks to fill that role quite well.

Id even say Philly has the right guy for their team in Couturier, they already have top end skill in Giroux and Briere so grabbing the safe defensively sound player makes a lot of sense for them.

Watch it, with posts like this Winnipegers are at risk of gaining a reputation here of being sensible, logical and overall friendly people.
