Thoughts?
Siemens isn't making the team, the kid just turn 18 a few days ago. And where are you hearing this talk he's NHL ready? On our Avs training camp board, people viewing the camp are saying he looks good, but not NHL ready. And if he somehow miraculiously does, he will only play 9 games, and it still won't make O'Byrne or Wilson available. The Avs need them for their defense and to make the cap floor.

The Avs would offer something like Yip + Cumiskey/Holos for a 4th round pick if the Rangers were interested.

I would do that deal, Cypher. Yip would be a solid addition to the Whalepack if we could get him through waivers.

Well if you're only trading Christensen, I'm not sure what you're expecting. Might as well wait to see who hits waivers. There will be someone.

That is the point, GKJ. The Rangers are using this as a motivational tool. Simply no need to move much of value other than Christensen or a mid-round pick for someone who is a long shot to make the team, anyway.

Terrible asset management.
Don't be surprised if that pair gets split up no matter what.

As for this thread, there's not really a reason for the Rangers to get another D. They have at least 8 NHL quality defensemen on the roster and I wouldn't be surprised of Kundratek was actually ready. Tortorella is notorious for playing mind games anyway, especially with younger players that he's got a question mark about and is trying to push (a la MDZ). In addition to Tortorella talking about adding another vet D, he's also talked about putting more youth into the lineup. I wouldn't be surprised to see a D added, but I think this is just mind games.

Last summer, Sather dealt Aaron Voros for Steve Eminger. Ended up being a good asset for us. I imagine it might be something like that. Guy that had fallen out of favor, out of the top 6, but has NHL experience and 10-15 minute ability.

There would have to be a legitimate reason, because they have unreal chemistry.

I think a deal around:

Erik Christensen

for

Jaroslav Spacek

Would help both teams. Montreal could use a guy like Christensen for faceoffs and the shootout.

Spacek could help the PP and bring the veteran experience. Spacek's cap is higher of course but is also an expiring contract.

Montreal could look to a guy like McCabe to sign for bottom pairing to replace a guy like Spacek. I don't know if Rangers fans were high on McCabe I did see some posts that some were not fond of him in New York. I think McCabe could be good to have on the backend and also is supposedly good friends with Gill.

If the rumors are true and you guys are planning on sending him to the minors, we can just pick him up for free.

He may be a little too expensive, anyway. Probably looking for someone in the 1-1.5 mil range.

How do the Rangers clear 2M in cap room?

Who would Spacek beat out? He isn't better than Eminger, and I'd bet that he isn't better than Erixon, either.

I think their chemistry is overblown. Last year you had two talented guys who were playing VERY simple games. It's easy to think they're better suited as a pair than they really are. Similar to Tyutin/Girardi a few years earlier. Not to say that they don't have chemistry at all, obviously.

Sauer is best paired with MDZ if he makes the team. If he doesn't, then you leave him with McDonagh.

Well, Erixon is better then Eminger. So Spacek can be a 3M press box fixture.

Send a scout over to Vancouver to keep an eye on McCabe to see how he performs.

Why? Why would we do this?

Why would we trade from a position of weakness (wings) for a position of strength (d)? There is zero reason for the Rangers to even consider such a trade.

I don't anticipate McCabe signing for $700K or so, which is near the max the Rangers will want to spend on a press box figure.

Gunnarsson is a better player than Wolski.
