More expensive future: Alex Goligoski vs. PK Subban
I know that both these guys will be pending RFA D-men at season's end and they will likely have an expensive future. Who will have the more expensive future going forward?
In my view, this isn't close. I view Subban as a borderline franchise defenseman, not just an offensive defenseman. Goligoski is an offensive defenseman, and a good one.
Subban should be $1.5-3 million more expensive for the rest of their careers, starting next season.
It just happens that Goligoski may have scored more than Subban last year but Subban strikes at me as a Goligoski comparable. The difference is Goligoski will be arbitration-eligible next year while Subban will not.
What do people think Subban will sign next year, somewhere around a couple years for 3.5-4 mil, then if he proves he can be a #1 he gets his real payday?

I sure hope that we get him at that bargain price and long term too hopefully.

Knowing the Habs management, they'll probably go for a 3 year contract around 4M per season. Then, Subban will hit the jackpot on a long term contract, à la Tylers Myers.

And then he will be more expensive than Tyler Myers...

imo.
When Subban hits UFA, sure. But Goligoski is closer to his prime (and to UFA as well) so it will be about 3-4 seasons until Subban can really have the edge IMO.
To be honest, I think Goligoski is going to have a bigger contract as of the next offseason. But Subban's will be a shorter length, and after Subban's contract runs out he will have the higher salary for the rest of their careers going forward because Subban is, you know, better.
And now that we know that Subban is a player that tends to suck early in the season and perform as his #1 self later in the season, perhaps it should drive down his future cost somewhat.
and its Mathradio with another Habs player poll related to money or hitting or something.
Since Subban is a player the Habs are expected to keep even in a rebuild, and that he is on a contract year, keeping Subban is going to cost a lot of money.
