Would you make these trades?

In the theme of some of the other threads I posted recently, here's a bunch of trade ideas for the Oilers. Give 'em a Yea or a Nay - and explain why or why not if you wish. Here we go:

NAY, Jim Who?
-------------------------------

To Boston: C Shawn Horcoff, 2nd round pick in 2005
To Edmonton: D Hal Gill
NAY, even though I don't really like Horcoff, I do like that 2nd.
-------------------------------

To Washington: LW Jani Rita
To Edmonton: LW Matt Pettinger
NAY, Rita>Pettinger
-------------------------------

To Los Angeles: LW Brad Isbister
To Edmonton: D Joe Corvo
YAY, from what i've seen Corvo is a decent player, more than what i've seen from Isbister.
-------------------------------

To Atlanta: D Frantisek Kaberle
To Edmonton: 3rd round pick in 2005
YAY, PPQB?
-------------------------------

To Tampa Bay: D Alexei Semenov
To Edmonton: RW Dmitri Afanasankov
NAY
-------------------------------

To San Jose: D Eric Brewer, C Shawn Horcoff
To Edmonton: C Patrick Marleau
YAY, don't like neither Brewer or Horcoff very much, and like Marleau.
-------------------------------

To New York (Islanders): LW Jani Rita, D Alexei Semenov
To Edmonton: Janne Niinimaa
NAY, someday Semenov could be better than Niinnima, or am I just dreaming?
-------------------------------

To Philadelphia: LW Ryan Smyth
To Edmonton: Simon Gagne
NAYAY, undecided here.
-------------------------------

To New Jersey: D Jason Smith
To Edmonton: G Ari Ahonen
NAY, probably wouldn't done this if we hadn't drafted a decent goalie in this years draft.
-------------------------------

To Buffalo: G Jussi Markkanen, C Jesse Niinimaki
To Edmonton: G Martin Biron
NAY, I think Juicy is better than Biron, and Niinimaki on top.. no thanks.
-------------------------------

To New York (Rangers): LW Brad Isbister
To Edmonton: C Jamie Lundmark
YAY, love to see this happen.
-------------------------------

To Anaheim: D Jason Smith
To Edmonton: D Vitali Vishnevsky, C Tim Brent
YAY, can't have to many Brent's.
-------------------------------

To Florida: D Eric Brewer, C Shawn Horcoff, LW Brad Isbister
To Edmonton: C Olli Jokinen, D Mike Van Ryn
[B]YAY, I would love this, Jokinen is our missing link. [B]

I'd do the Marleau trade without hesitation.

To San Jose: C Marty Reasoner
To Edmonton: D Jim Fahey

Nope. Fahey isn't anything more than a makeshift #4, and would probably be in the PB in Edmonton.

-------------------------------

To Boston: C Shawn Horcoff, 2nd round pick in 2005
To Edmonton: D Hal Gill

Hal Gill is not worth a 2nd round pick + a developing third line center. No.

-------------------------------

To Washington: LW Jani Rita
To Edmonton: LW Matt Pettinger

Maybe. Depends on when the trade was offered and how Rita was doing at the time.

-------------------------------

To Los Angeles: LW Brad Isbister
To Edmonton: D Joe Corvo

Like another poster mentioned, Corvo has had off-ice problems. No.

-------------------------------

To Atlanta: D Frantisek Kaberle
To Edmonton: 3rd round pick in 2005

Trading someone we don't have for a 3rd round pick? Sure.
Seriously though, maybe. Depends on how our D is holding up at the time of the trade.

-------------------------------

To Tampa Bay: D Alexei Semenov
To Edmonton: RW Dmitri Afanasankov

No.

-------------------------------

To San Jose: D Eric Brewer, C Shawn Horcoff
To Edmonton: C Patrick Marleau

Tough one. It's a "I will say yes tonight but tomorrow I might say no" type of trade.

-------------------------------

To New York (Islanders): LW Jani Rita, D Alexei Semenov
To Edmonton: Janne Niinimaa

No.

-------------------------------

To Philadelphia: LW Ryan Smyth
To Edmonton: Simon Gagne

Throw in a high round draft pick and it'd be a go. As it stands, no.

-------------------------------

To New Jersey: D Jason Smith
To Edmonton: G Ari Ahonen

No.

-------------------------------

To Buffalo: G Jussi Markkanen, C Jesse Niinimaki
To Edmonton: G Martin Biron

No. Would've been different had we not drafted Dubynk.

-------------------------------

To New York (Rangers): LW Brad Isbister
To Edmonton: C Jamie Lundmark

Yes.

-------------------------------

To Anaheim: D Jason Smith
To Edmonton: D Vitali Vishnevsky, C Tim Brent

Depends on Smith's contract. At this point, no.

-------------------------------

To Florida: D Eric Brewer, C Shawn Horcoff, LW Brad Isbister
To Edmonton: C Olli Jokinen, D Mike Van Ryn

No.

-------------------------------

To Boston: C Shawn Horcoff, 2nd round pick in 2005
To Edmonton: D Hal Gill

No
-------------------------------

To Washington: LW Jani Rita
To Edmonton: LW Matt Pettinger

hmm..if Rita wasn't working out well for us after 25 NHL games, then yeah
-------------------------------

To Los Angeles: LW Brad Isbister
To Edmonton: D Joe Corvo

No. I think Isbister can still be a solid player, as soon as he puts it all togehter
-------------------------------

To Atlanta: D Frantisek Kaberle
To Edmonton: 3rd round pick in 2005

no. Kaberle is 30, we have solid young d-man in our system.
-------------------------------

To Tampa Bay: D Alexei Semenov
To Edmonton: RW Dmitri Afanasankov

Nope.
-------------------------------

To San Jose: D Eric Brewer, C Shawn Horcoff
To Edmonton: C Patrick Marleau

hmmm..interesting, maybe if we thew a 2nd rounder their way & got Brad Stuart or Rathje
-------------------------------

To New York (Islanders): LW Jani Rita, D Alexei Semenov
To Edmonton: Janne Niinimaa

No. i'd love to see Janne back, but Semmy has good upside
-------------------------------

To Philadelphia: LW Ryan Smyth
To Edmonton: Simon Gagne

no. Gag's is good, but Smyth defines oiler hockey
-------------------------------

To New Jersey: D Jason Smith
To Edmonton: G Ari Ahonen

No. we have Jeff Deslauriers & Dubnyk in our system, and Conkannen as the stop-gap for the 2.
-------------------------------

To Buffalo: G Jussi Markkanen, C Jesse Niinimaki
To Edmonton: G Martin Biron

yeah. in a heart-beat.
-------------------------------

To New York (Rangers): LW Brad Isbister
To Edmonton: C Jamie Lundmark

No.
-------------------------------

To Anaheim: D Jason Smith
To Edmonton: D Vitali Vishnevsky, C Tim Brent

Yeah
-------------------------------

To Florida: D Eric Brewer, C Shawn Horcoff, LW Brad Isbister
To Edmonton: C Olli Jokinen, D Mike Van Ryn

i'd seriously consider it, but i'd look for a something extra coming my way.

Not too sure...I would have to think about it...Very good return, however this would be a deal we either win, or look back at in 5 years kicking ourselves in the rear....

There's two I'd consider long and hard if I was Lowe and they were brought to me, and those are:
1) Gagne for Smyth
Damn hard to deal Smyth. Might send the wrong message to the rest of the players as well, but I think with Gagne over Smyth, we'd be a stronger team. Very tough one to decide.

2) Marleau for Brewer and Horcoff
Well, I'm probably one of the biggest Brewer supporters on this board right now. And this deal would hurt us bad. So because IMO, we can't replace Brewer right now, and I doubt we'd be able to find a worthy replacement in a trade I'd pass. Maybe if we could weasel Hannan in... Say Marleau, Hannan for Brewer, Horcoff, Rita(or similar... Salmalainen, Paukovich, whoever they like) and a 1st... I'd do that. Probably defeats the purpose for San Jose though.

To San Jose: C Marty Reasoner
To Edmonton: D Jim Fahey

San Jose would not do this deal---Fahey's up side is alot better then Reasoner and SJ does have people in their system to replace Viiny D

-------------------------------

To Boston: C Shawn Horcoff, 2nd round pick in 2005
To Edmonton: D Hal Gill

Boston would not do this deal...Gil is a big bruising D man and the Bruins will be needing him

-------------------------------

To Washington: LW Jani Rita
To Edmonton: LW Matt Pettinger

Pettinger has atleast gotten some goals in the league--it might take Rita and a 3rd or 2nd to clsoe that deal----I know there are alot of Rita supporters in this board...But Rita has barely survived at the AHL
-------------------------------

To Los Angeles: LW Brad Isbister
To Edmonton: D Joe Corvo

Corvo was one of the top icetime D-men for the Kings--LA needs reliable D-men and Izzy has only proven he can not stay healthy and when he is healthy--he is often invisable
-------------------------------

To Atlanta: D Frantisek Kaberle
To Edmonton: 3rd round pick in 2005

I assume this is reversed.---Kab is pushing 31 and has injurt problems-I would only give a 5th /6th for him

-------------------------------

To Tampa Bay: D Alexei Semenov
To Edmonton: RW Dmitri Afanasankov

No from the oilers point of view----Semenov's upside is bigger
-------------------------------

To San Jose: D Eric Brewer, C Shawn Horcoff
To Edmonton: C Patrick Marleau

SAn Jose would turn this down--Pat has turned the corner and is only getting better

-------------------------------

To New York (Islanders): LW Jani Rita, D Alexei Semenov
To Edmonton: Janne Niinimaa

This was a joke trade right? Oiler fans are stll recoverying from the last time he went in from of his net. Janne's rep is overarted.

-------------------------------

To Philadelphia: LW Ryan Smyth
To Edmonton: Simon Gagne

I would do this deal--but it looks like Gagne has bought into Hitch's system in Philly. And the fact that gagne is four is younger then Smyth would cause the Philly team to ask for Rita and someone else

-------------------------------

To New Jersey: D Jason Smith
To Edmonton: G Ari Ahonen

Devils would turn this down
-------------------------------

To Buffalo: G Jussi Markkanen, C Jesse Niinimaki
To Edmonton: G Martin Biron

Over payment by the oilers...Buffalo will have a problem this fall if their is a season with the waiver draft and goalies

-------------------------------

To New York (Rangers): LW Brad Isbister
To Edmonton: C Jamie Lundmark

Yeah right--Lundmark is still considered a can't miss prospect and IZZY is going down the drain!

-------------------------------

To Anaheim: D Jason Smith
To Edmonton: D Vitali Vishnevsky, C Tim Brent

Anaheim would laugh at this deal

-------------------------------

To Florida: D Eric Brewer, C Shawn Horcoff, LW Brad Isbister
To Edmonton: C Olli Jokinen, D Mike Van Ryn

Jokinen is a Keenen boy and is not going anywhere

-------------------------------

I played the the trades from the other teams perspective and ask myself--why would that team make that deal

If San Jose would do this I would pay for the plane tickets. Unfortunately I think San Jose would also be looking for at least a 1st Round Pick attached as well.

The only one I would do without any hesitation would be the Marleau one, if San Jose was foolish enough to bite.

BTW, hate to nitpick but Kaberle is in Carolina now.

I didn't know it was possible to have too many goaltenders, what if none of them pan out?

Well, Ahonen isn't exactly a proven comodity himself. If we're going to be trading Smith, I would hope it isn't for a goalie prospect.

To San Jose: C Marty Reasoner
To Edmonton: D Jim Fahey
Yes I would say no if I were more certain of Reasoner's health.
-------------------------------

To Boston: C Shawn Horcoff, 2nd round pick in 2005
To Edmonton: D Hal Gill
No It seems like too much of an overpayment on Edmonton's part
-------------------------------

To Washington: LW Jani Rita
To Edmonton: LW Matt Pettinger
No
-------------------------------

To Los Angeles: LW Brad Isbister
To Edmonton: D Joe Corvo
Yes I don't have enough faith in Isbister becoming the player we all want him to be.
-------------------------------

To Carolina: D Frantisek Kaberle
To Edmonton: 3rd round pick in 2005
Yes Kind of the same player we already have in Bergeron, but a little more experienced. All in all, not a bad return for a 3rd.
-------------------------------

To Tampa Bay: D Alexei Semenov
To Edmonton: RW Dmitri Afanasankov
No Afanasenkov is a little too streaky for my tastes and I have a lot of faith in Semenov.
-------------------------------

To San Jose: D Eric Brewer, C Shawn Horcoff
To Edmonton: C Patrick Marleau
Yes I like Brewer and Horcoff, but at the end of the day I'd probably say yes. Doen't address any of the Sharks' needs though.
-------------------------------

To New York (Islanders): LW Jani Rita, D Alexei Semenov
To Edmonton: Janne Niinimaa
Yes/No I'm on the fence with this one. Not sure about Janne's knee and I'm confident Semenov will be a great player, but it is Niinimaa afterall.
-------------------------------

To Philadelphia: LW Ryan Smyth
To Edmonton: Simon Gagne
No Lateral move skillwise, but giving up grit, leadership, and pride in the copper and blue
-------------------------------

To New Jersey: D Jason Smith
To Edmonton: G Ari Ahonen
No Nothing against Ahonen, but Smith is far too much to give up for him especially since Deslauriers and Dubnyk are already in the fold.
-------------------------------

To Buffalo: G Jussi Markkanen, C Jesse Niinimaki
To Edmonton: G Martin Biron
No I think Conklin will out-play both of these tenders next year and Biron isn't enough of an improvement over Markkanen to justify giving up Niinimaki and taking on the extra salary.
-------------------------------

To New York (Rangers): LW Brad Isbister
To Edmonton: C Jamie Lundmark
Yes For the same reason I said yes to the Corvo trade
-------------------------------

To Anaheim: D Jason Smith
To Edmonton: D Vitali Vishnevsky, C Tim Brent
No If we wanted Brent, we could've taken him in the 3rd round last year. And Vishnevsky is overpaid and doesn't bring nearly as much to the table as Smith
-------------------------------

To Florida: D Eric Brewer, C Shawn Horcoff, LW Brad Isbister
To Edmonton: C Olli Jokinen, D Mike Van Ryn
Yes/No Jokinen is tempting, but overall, I don't think the value is close enough

He posted, 'Oilers already have too many goalies'. I didn't say Smith for Ahonen was comparable, I was just mentioning that you can't have too many goalies. Nothing about Ahonen or Smith.

I'd do that last one for sure, Van Ryn is incredibly underrated, this guy is still gonna be stellar, he just had his development stalled by St. Louis, which isn't really that surprising, .

Jokinen and Van Ryn are going to be a No.1 center and a top pairing D very soon IMO. Van Ryn and Bouwmeester on the same D is rediculous.

I hope everyone realizes that if the one with Florida were real and the Oilers signed Nedved, it would be

York-Jokinen-Smyth
Dvorak-Nedved-Torres
Moreau-Reasoner-Hemsky
Pisani-Stoll-Laraque

Smith-Van Ryn(First full NHL Season 37 points)
Semenov-Ulanov
Cross-Bergeron
Lynch

Conklin-Maarkanen

And the Oilers wouldn't be adding any more salary.
