Jay Pandolfo Signs 1 Year Deal

As per Islanders main site. I guess this means he's going to be working the 4th line this year.

Good signing, have Haley come up only for when we need the toughness.

Why is it good? Did you see him in any preseason games? Neither did I despite the fact he dressed for all of them.

That's the thing though. Haley isn't "just a tough guy". He's a good hockey player for the 4th line. He was great for this team.

I never understood why Cappy was enamored with Pandolfo. He had a good career, but he didn't show anything in the preseason that was worth a contract. At least Staios did.

I'm just tired of signing all the "on the brink of retirement" players.

This has to be about Veteran leadership and cup experiance....He might have worked hard in the preseason but from what I saw he really did not impress me to keep him.....I personally would rather keep Haley....who knows....in a month we might love the guy

I think Jay Pandolfo can help us on the PK and 4th line until EL Nino gets healthy. Look for Pandolfo to be back and fourth from Bridgeport to Long Island all season.

Not sure about this signing.

Rather see him on the 4th line than Gillies I guess. But all I am hearing from Devils fans is that he is washed up.

I'm fine with Jay... nothing wrong with a versatile 4th line forward with experience and character. Haley wasn't going to be a superstar neither is Pandolfo. Just a cracker in the soup we aren't talking beef or vegetables.

Is it a two-way deal? Guess he'd clear waivers if it is one-way.

The more I see of Haley the more I see just an agitator (at least in the preseason)...maybe it's just me. If Haley were to develop into something more shouldn't he get more than 4th line minutes? I love the kid just as everyone else on this board.

This is good for martin and even good for our overall offensive numbers. More of pando on the pk means less of guys like okie, Bailey, and comeau on the pk and more of those guys on the ice in scoring situations.

I think there were better players waived over the last three days. 13th forward?

Pretty amazing that two camp tryouts were signed in the same year. Perhaps Snow is trying to send a message to future free agents?

I think it is a one-way deal not sure at this time. I still think Pandolfo will be back and fourth all season as well as sit in the press box for some games. Pandolfo would clear waivers every time and if he was picked up by another team it would not be a big loss. Pando signing is a depth move nothing more nothing less!

One-way or two-way deals don't matter matter when it comes to waivers. One-way means a player will earn the same amount of $ in the NHL and AHL, 2 way means they will have 2 separate salaries.

Pandolfo would need to clear waivers, I doubt anyone would claim him though.

To be in a good lineup, you should be more than a PK specialist.

Then again, 4th lines aren't that good anyway.

Thanks, I had to look it up. The waiver exemption applies to players of only a certain age or experience.

Anyway, it's a good sign Garth is spending even if it's just a little.

For all the excitement Haley cause last season this preseason he definitly took a step back, took far too many stupid penalties. I would bet he was spoken too about them his first game then went out and took many more dumb penalties, quick way to get demoted especially when you are on the bubble in the first place.

Haley will get more ice time in the Bridge and he can get it out of his system down there, I like the kid, but you have to have more discipline at this level.

I don't think these camp tryout signings send any message that hasn't been sent already with moves like what we saw with the attempt to sign Erhoff end of June. The problem is that free agents don't want to hear the message.

Hell - One of our own players under contract didn't answer Garth's call!

So Martin is our only muscle?

And what happens when Nino comes back and is on the roster?
Does Pando or Martin sit?

This is purely to keep the wheels on the bus when things turn for the worse. With young teams, sometimes things aren't going so well and instead of working harder, they fall into the trap and fall apart.

The Islanders understand that absolutely cannot happen this year. And with the injuries, the Islanders need to have NHL capable players at their disposal, they cannot go through an AHL carousel. Martin will still be at the NHL level, Pandolfo gives our scorers more of a chance to, score, while he kills Penalties.

Look deeper Isles fans. There's always a reason for certain things.

We lack more than goaltending and quality D is team toughness. Haley brought that every game. Pando brings nothing. Bad signing . We will get pushed around all year.

This entire toughness thing is overblown. You don't need to ice 5 skilled fourth liners to keep your team toughness in check. You know what leads to better team toughness?

Having the opposing teams' players chasing you all night. We need to be scoring goals in bunches.

As I just said, Martin will still be in the lineup. Gillies will be around for toughness as well. The Islanders need to get better at keeping the pucks out of the net, not by fighting more.
