Another day another fluffy Dave Stubbs article focused on another loser from last year.
Spacek had a bad year (bad two years...), ditto Gomez, guess what "sports journalist" Dave Stubbs asks? "Are you motivated for this coming year?"
Not even a hockey question like which side he prefers to play, if his poor play was a result of him being on his off-side or even if he thinks he can step up into Hamrlik's old role - nope - instead he asks if Spacek lost weight and what he did to do so.
He's a professional hockey player playing in the best city at the highest level - it's pathetic and embarrassing that we need an entire piece dedicated to his "improved" conditioning; oh he drinks less beer? How fascinating, now does he think he can contribute to the team in any meaningful way or will he run around like a headless chicken for yet another season?
I've always said that Spacek and Hamrlik were wildly out of shape given their terrible acceleration and pace, this only goes to prove it. Unprofessional *******s. Joe Sakic would work out 3 hours a day in the off-season until he retired, Chelios played until 45 and would work out up to 5 hours a day. Spacek reduced his intake of chicken fingers after 8pm and he gets a full fluff piece.
I hate the Gazette sometimes.
