Very happy with this signing. Gald to see them get it locked down before the regular season starts. I was honestly expecting a little more than 4.5 a year. So pretty good signing in my book.

Thanks, Howson, for cleaning up MacLean's toxic waste. Welcome, Kekalainen; let's get good things built!

Typically. Sadly, I'm a far less peaceful woman.

Half a million more than he should have gotten but whatever I like him and I'm glad he's going to keep playing for the good guys.
Makes the Adam Foote trade look even better if that's even possible.

Yay!! I'm so thrilled to see this! RJ is my fave player and it's great to have him where he belongs for the next five years!

What makes it look truly lopsided is how well Savard is doing. Someday I hope that one will be looked at as a massive historical blunder on the part of Colorado and Foote himself for forcing that along.
(Me? Still a bit bitter? Absolutely not!)

That seals it. Shoulda' got an Umby 3rd jersey last Christmas instead of Voracek.

Oh man. Wow. I almost did too, but then I thought, "Better get a Nash, everyone will have one, but the man is franchise." Sorry dude.

Umby said he wanted to see what was going to happen in the off season. I take this as a sign of approval.
I approve also.

If not for the Tyutin extension, I would've called this the perfect offseason.

Great news. RJ has grown on me over the years. He has a surprising amount of skill to go with the brawn and heart. He's one of the few players that has a heart the size of some of those early guys.
PS - I couldn't figure out which jersey to break out tonight..was going with Goloubef until this news :^)

Certainly got market value. Is he going to live up to this contract? That's a 23 million dollar question.
He won't. I just have a feeling that he's going to break down in a couple years. E5.

Wow- I never realized Savard was picked with the 4th in the Foote deal.
I'm not used to Columbus coming out even in trades, much less winning one. This one is a win by KO.

Quick, somebody send Nash to RJ's place to convince him that Columbus isn't such a bad place to... Oh... wait. Never mind.

Fixed
Glad this is done. Can't wait for the day when we don't have to overspend by 500k to keep our own players or sign others.

Can someone dig up that thread from this spring/summer where Pitt fans were sure he'd come to the Pens next season?
