Mike Modano Retires

I've made a decision on my hockey playing future: *******.com/3ugr8lz

After a long summer of thinking about my future, I've come to the decision that it's time to retire as a player from the NHL. There's way too many people to thank here at this time and too much to say, so I have a press conference scheduled for early Friday afternoon. Check back Friday late afternoon for more. What a great ride it's been!

Should've happened last summer.

Do you guys think that the Stars will retire his #9? I think they should, even though he didn't finish his career in Dallas.

I will do everything in my power to get to Modano's jersey retirement night when it happens, that much I do know.

Not only do I think it'll happen, it'll happen before the end of this season.

Need a new owner to retire a number.

But without a doubt, Mo's number is gonna be hanging up there.

Modano retiring makes me feel so old. He is one of the main reasons I chose the Minnesota North Stars to be my favorite franchise as I was just getting into hockey when he was getting into the NHL. Amazing career. Hope he doesn't pull a Brett Hull and get fat.

Wow. That would have been a great shot to go out on. Guess he wasn't feeling it.

Same goes for me.

Sad to see him go, but it was time.

Thanks for the great memories, Mike!

Same here. He will always be one of the reasons why I got deeper into hockey, especially the NHL and more especially Dallas Stars.

It's funny over here, when I mention that I am a die-hard fan of the Dallas Stars. "You mean Dallas Dallas? In Texas? You mean hockey? Icehockey?!"

And I'll see you there. I'm definitely going. I'll do everything in my power anyways. Gonna be a tear jerker that's for sure.

I watched the guy get drafted when I was 9 and that was that. I was already a North Stars fan but man, Modano was special and made it that much more sweeter. Can't believe it's come to an end. Thanks Mike !

Cheers, mate. To another season of long sleepless nights and tough days, more grey hair and heart-attacks to come. Go Stars!

Awesome but once he retires he doesn't get that money.

Just a nice gesture by the organization that started it all for him.

Won't count against the cap, since it isn't a multi-year deal, so no work for CapGeek.
