Great move, very classy! How awsome would it be if he plays one game for us in our home debut this year so he can reach 1500! Even if he plays one shift and he heads to the dressing room. How awesome would that be?

As nice as it would be, I don't know if I can take another situation like that Anaheim game. Hoping the next time that type of game comes around is when we raise his number to the rafters (on his own bloody banner!).

Classy move by the Stars organization. Question for the die-hard Stars fans out there. Was it hard to watch Modano play for Detroit last year?

Not at all.

It would be great if he plays one game for us, but I doubt it would happen.

Not as hard as I thought it'd be.

The ending he had here in Dallas against Anaheim at home, then the follow up against Minnesota up there, was just too perfect. I don't blame him for trying to have another year at it. But we had our ending and our goodbye imo.

Yeah, I did that yesterday, and it wasn't a very good decision. I was weeping like a little school girl while watching goal 500, breaking the American born point record in San Jose and the final game against Anaheim.

Oilers fan here. Modano killed my Oil many a time, but there was no denying how smooth, effective, and great he was.

In fact, the Stars are actually held in fairly high regard here; they are not hated. I love when the Oil and Stars meet because you always know it will be a great match, unfortunately too often with the Stars on top, but entertaining nonetheless.

Modano is one of the more respected non-Oilers in Edmonton; just a shade below the Sakics and Yzermans, but they are also Canadian icons. He is definitely the most liked non-Oiler who is also non-Canadian.

he might be the best from that great generation of American hockey players that was born in 70s, got hooked on hockey from the Miracle on Ice, and won the World Cup in 1996.

Modano has a really dry sarcastic sense of humor that alot of people just dont seem to get. Doing an interview during the lockout he was asked about playing in a lower tier hockey league. The issue of the salaries for that league came up and Modano joked that that salary might feed his dogs. HF members got all up in arms and now its a joke. Many fans were legit ******** by his comments for some reason and hold a grudge over it.

It's not just certain HF posters who got all cranky over that one....you're just as likely to see several pouty references to the dog episode, in the comments section of the article on TSN.

I would agree that sometimes Modano lacks that sensor that indicates when something might be taken the wrong way, but the fact that people are still holding grudges over that one little quote, makes me chuckle.

Just a reminder, press conference is at 1 PM CT (12 or so minutes away) on DallasStars.com and apparently it'll be on NHL Network as well.
