Obviously a bittersweet day for most Stars fans, Mike will be missed and will always be viewed as an American Icon. He did a lot for the sport of hockey especially with its popularity in a place like Texas and other southern states.
Holy cow, I'm a ****-show now after watching the NHL Network Modano tribute So very well done. I haven't commented on Modano in any of the retirement threads but for my money he is the #1 influence on my hockey life behind my dad. We were all witnesses to the greatest American player ever. Not only that, but he built Dallas hockey. He IS hockey to me. Do you know how many kids in Dallas had to fight over the #9 on every single team in youth hockey? I never once got the honor and every single season it was a fight. Thank you Mike, you are an absolute legend.
I consider myself fortunate to have been present to witness Mo's 500th goal against Antero Nittymaki and the Flyers back in '07. If they have a jersey retirement night this season, you can bet I'll be there.
I grew up watching Mike Modano play and all my friends would heckle me for having an American born player as my favorite player lol. He is a class act, it always seems the greatest players are the most emotional players as well.
I missed that special on NHL Network, does anyone know where I can watch it or get a hold of it?
