We have some new guy's trying GDT's this year, so, I'm posting some things too make it a bit easier for you. Just quote this post to get coding for these every game day thread needs.
Kinguin & me, and maybe Travis will have around 15 of these at your disposal to choose from.
More to come soon.
Just quote to get the codec and copy an paste.

Simple BB Code Tags
That header was written as follows:
BB Code Tags.
Most of what you will want to do is with BBCode tags. This is how I do all of my text formatting, alignment, etc.
Please realize that you can combine almost any of these.
Here is a link to BB Code tags and follows is how you get there on HF: FAQ -> Reading and Posting Messages -> Are there any special codes/tags I can use to format my posts? -> For more information about vB code, click here.
Please note that each has to be started and ended. The end tag is simply a repeat of the start tag preceded by '/' (all in the square brackets)
(noparse /noparse is what I use to stop the tags from doing their thing so that you can see how it's done)
I'm not going to go through all of them, but some of the more frequently used are:
size + or -
this text is two sizes larger than normal
this text is two sizes smaller than normal
this text is two sizes larger than normal
this text is two sizes smaller than normal
Font - The fonts are limited. Try it to see what works.
this text is in the courier font
this text is in the courier font
Text appearance
this text is bold this text is italic this text is underlined
this text is bold
this text is italic
this text is underlined
and can be combined like this
All
All
Color - lots are supported. Try what you want to see.
this text is blue
this text is blue
Justification - [center/left/right] is just as it seems
I start and end the entire GDT with this so that everything is centered:
text or table or picture or whatever
Advanced BB Code Tags
Lists - One of the more handy ones that I don't use is probably the three list options:
list item 1
list item 2
list item 1
list item 2
list item 1
list item 2
list item 1
list item 2
list item 1
list item 2

list item 2
Tables are created using a tag set and bars '|' (just above the enter key).
Here is a simple table:
Written
Number
One
1
Two
2
Three
3
Written Number
One 1
Two 2
Three 3
Please note that any place you hit a return, it starts a new row in the table. If you do it at the wrong time, the table will be limited to the number of columns on the shortest row.
You can control your table a little more than this and it even makes it sortable if you add '="head"' into the table tag(undocumented):
Written
Number
One
1
Two
2
Three
3
Written Number
One 1
Two 2
Three 3
Click twice on the head to try the sorting.
Three notes about sorting:
It doesn't handle +/- well. It groups the positives and negatives separately but sorts by absolute value.
You cannot format text in the table or it kills the sorting
Using the head as it is written makes the header unreadable - you have to change the color
You can also control the width of the table as follows(an 'em' is some printers measure - that's all I know. My tables are typically 40em in the GDTs)(also undocumented):
Written
Number
One
1
Two
2
Three
3
Written Number
One 1
Two 2
Three 3
You can make tables with custom headers like this(still sortable):
-----Pens-----
-----Rags-----
Winners
Losers
Best
Worst
-----Pens-----
-----Rags-----
Winners Losers
Best Worst
You can combine nearly any of the above, as I said, to control almost everything appearance-wise. If you have any questions, let me know. If you see something interesting on any GDT, you can hit 'quote' and see what codes they used. This is how I learned everything.
First of all, folks, sorry for not being able to come here much this past week.
I returned from the trip Friday -> Saturday, flying in the middle of the night, got home 3:30 am and had to go to work right on that morning to take part in a meeting to explain everything we did.
So, go figure: someone blows a tire, you replace it - simple as that - and have to explain to the folks what you did.
And on Monday, we had to make paper work to document everything until late night.
Anyways:
UNCLE MARTIN:
Made a first set with some ideas, with a bit different styles between each other:
COLE and UM:
The progs I use mainly are - believe it or not - PaintShop Pro's v. 3 and 4, software that were abandoned somewhere in the mid-90's (except by me ), Photoshop CS8, and eventually Illustrator 10 (which are already obsolete as well, and yes - I have to buy the modern stuff).
I don't use MS Paint, and I use Photobucket simply to host the images, nothing more. I never tried to use the Photobucket tools, but I take the tip from UM, I'll try it one of these days.
I don't know if I recommend using old software (full of bugs, BTW) to you guys, but there are certain features they have that useful for me.
I use Paintshop Pro 3, for example, to make shapes and cut/crop almost anything. It's easier to make selections and pure geometric forms.
Version 4 has a much better Smudge tool than CS. It's fundamental to smooth edges.
And they use much less RAM and CPU time.
The fonts are Windows default, from free font sites and a CD that I bought in the newsstand. But it's easy to find them on the Net. The effects are made with CS8.
-On making the banner Cole posted:
It's actually much more simple that what you may think - the first one takes time, but the others follow the same template.
If you take a look, it's a basic rounded rectangle, with other geometric forms on top. Each one stays in a different layer.
The effects are basically the ones CS provides to work on layers: Bevel and Emboss, Stroke, Outer/Inner Glow, etc.
A quick tip: many times when applying an effect, if you exaggerate the numbers astronomically, it misses the original intent of the tool, but gives you a psychedelic look.
-----------------------------This effect here on the right is made this way. ^^
I won't give you guys many details here, first because the post has already a mile, and second, it's easier to explain and understand things step-by-step when you're doing the work.
So, Cole - or anybody else, if you have an idea, try to imagine it, create a shape on your mind and tell me about it. I'll do my best to help you discover the method and little by little we work this out. I'll reply ASAP.
Just a note, I called the October 17th game against the Jets, not the 15th game against the Sabres.
Also, as per usual, anyone wanting to contribute to the season opener GDT is more than welcome to help.
I'd call one of the Alberta games as well, but as of now I'm trying to figure out a way to go to one of them (probably the Calgary one just because of the day and distance) and don't want to be out of town when that comes up.

I saw that mix-up in the prior thread. I'll fix it. I knew you would want hte Jets game.
I put together some of the information (sorry it's long) needed for newbies coming along. I'm going to update as much as I possibly can. If I skip over anyone - please, please, please PM me and I'll gladly fix it!
Btw I grabbed a few that were available. Especially the Jagrwatch game. Hopefully we can get some group work on that.
This is one of my favorite posts of all time (from the 2008/09 GDT schedule thread):
BTW - The formatting has lost some of the noparses or something and the tags aren't showing up.
Sad thing is... I remember Kinguin saying that like it was yesterday. Now looking at the 3rd post he's helping n00bs like me out do a better job w/ headers.

There's one before that on Dec. 8th. I understand the 23rd game is at home but why start so late on the flyer/Jagr hate. Hehe
Alright guys - I updated everything so far. A couple quick notes:
1) Happy early bday to UM and BM! I expect something related to your birthday in the GDT, though.
2) IF I missed anyone, please just send me a PM. I promise it's not on purpose! I'm pretty busy at work but I want to keep this thread updated. Just keep me on my toes!
3) TSG - thank you so much for helping w/ the 1st goal pick 'ems. I'm trying to figure out an easy way to keep a running tab on the winners. I'll keep you posted via PM when i figure it out. (Any suggestions are welcome)
Actually...scratch that. I was planning on throwing something together after the game because I've been struggling through some nasty insomnia like clockwork again this week, but the Sandman has just been throwing bags of ****ing mythical Ambien at me for the past couple minutes and I'm about ready to pass out...
If someone else wants to work on it...awesome. If not I'll do a pretty vanilla version tomorrow afternoon.
