Mackenzie released a list of 40 people on waivers today and there's only one name that I think the Oil (if they had the contract space) would/should take, and that's Shaone Morrisonn. At least he would make the defence a little better.

Agreed.
He'd be a decent partner for Gilbert. Though apparently he wanted out of Buffalo, so I'd wait and see if he gets bought out or just put in the minors.

How about Valentenko? He is described as a dman who can hit, block-shots and has a bomb of a shot from the point. Foot-speed issues...but so do most of the Oiler's defensive dmen. At least bring him to camp and see how he squares up with Tulupov (sp?); if he doesn't cut it, cut him loose.
Posting a gif just for the sake of posting a gif I see.
"Oh noes, the Oilerz missed the playoffs I remember! Kotalik is on waivers again and he sucks so he must have sucked so I post funny gif to mock other poster lol!"

No, he was brought in at Hemsky's request and they had zero chemistry. Kotalik wasn't good at all IMO. But if Soundwave liked him, no great shakes. I haven't grown attached to any of our middling players of the past five years. They're all easily replaceable.

Kotalik didn't click right away, but he soon started scoring some goals and some important shoot-out goals. Nothing earth-shattering, but he did provide excellent depth and secondary scoring for a team that sadly just completely lost it with around 10 games left.
Nothing worth mocking a fellow poster over with one of these inflammatory gifs that are getting so old around here.
Doesn't it throw up any red flags to anyone that he's holding out for that kind of money? I'd prefer that the Oilers try to keep the salaries a little more balanced. What happens if Hall/Eberle/RNH become better players then Doughty? What are you going to have to pay them? Let's keep the salaries balanced and look for a #1 D man through trade (We have a plethora of young players we could package in a trade). It's obviously all about the money with Doughty. Winning is not his priority.
From what I understand, Doughty isn't holding out because he wants more money, he is holding out because he wants a shorter contract. It sounded to me like Lombardi refused to offer him anything less than a seven year deal, Doughty only wants four.

DD wants a contract that takes him to UFA and not many GMS will give it

Well, he shouldn't have to sign his life away to a team that he doesn't want to be with long term. Lombardi doesn't seem to be playing fair by saying he needs to sign for seven years.
This Doughty situation screams of insecurity from L.A.
As a GM and business, L.A. should be trying to sign the guy into his FA years.
As a player, Doughty loved L.A. growing up. Had posters on his bedroom wall.
It's always human nature to keep your options open. You never want to have regrets. Maybe DD wants to see what's on the other side once he becomes a UFA. It doesn't mean he won't sign with L.A. afterwards.
Tough spot DL is in and I am personally loving it.
Take this with a grain of salt, from Hockey Break, I thought hes been decent but others think he is brutal

Two teams are planning on sending Drew Doughty an offer sheet today. It will be interesting to see how this develops.....Doughty of course does not need to sign any offer sheet he receives. Working on details....The New Jersey Devils, Edmonton Oilers and Boston Bruins all inquired about Drew Doughty in the past.
