Wahl needs another year after missing so much time, he got a longer look last year, but is obviously in need of conditioning. I guess you can say the same for Negrin, but man he is starting to get buried on our depth chart in a hurry. He needs a healthy season to start with and then a huge leap forward in his development over the year.

A bit surprised that Negrin didn't stay up a bit longer.

Actually, what's less than "surprised"? I feel that.

Is it just me or does it seem a little early to cut so many guys after one pre season game??

Kinda thought a few guys would stay up a bit longer, Wahl in particular, but nothing shocking here. So I guess I probably could have quoted anyone here...

I thought Ferland and Holland would at least have another game, seems like the organization pretty much has their forwards decided though, lots of D man left, battling for that position if Sarich starts the season injured.

They impressed definately, but I honestly didnt expect them to make the first cut, neither are close to being ready..

On a side note, Abby should get some much needed offense this year

No one is surprised with Howse not making it past the first cuts? I'd think they'd give hime at least a couple of games. Guess his conditioning is not as good as he says....

Not really that surprised, no. These kids (especially the more skilled players) will have to dominate on the ice in games and practices to be given a serious shot. Howse didn't do that, and a full year in the AHL will do nothing but benefit his development.

I don't doubt that a year in Abby would do him good, heck even 2 years. But it would have been nice to see how he does against some top prospects & NHLers for more than 1 game.
Anyone remember if he made it past first cuts last year - or was he sent back to minors right away?
