Mark Dekanich out for season

Club saying G Mark Dekanich is out 4 weeks w a high-ankle sprain raises an eyebrow. Unless it's mild, that inkury can take several months.
Agree with Porty here. Juice and Nash were out much longer than just a month with high ankle sprains. It's just a tough injury to come back fully recovered from.

Sanford seems like an even better fallback signing at this point.

I think that's what Leclaire got in his last season here during preseason, I think it was Boogaard that gave it to him

For 2 weeks of the season (with a fairly easy/light game schedule), it shouldn't matter.

If Mason does not wake up we can think about draft pick... because in this situation in West Conference a goalkeeper is the most important.

Hope he has a speedy recovery. I heard the injury happened in the first 5 minutes of the game, so maybe it isn't too horrible since he stayed in the full period and still made some nice saves.

Or he made it worse by playing on it for the rest of the period. One of our rec league goalies got a pretty bad ankle injury and continued to play a couple games....he hasnt played in net for over 5 months now.

Mason better be ready

Not sure what it really means, but an internet translator came up with "The poor fit and toilet "

Sanford looked extremely sharp at the camp session I attended, and then I was feeling really good about having him as a potential #3. Then came 6 GA in the 'Peg, and now I'm not sure what to think.

I'm highly skeptical about the 4-week projection. As others have pointed out, our other players who've suffered this injury have taken several months to heal completely. I thought I heard someone say that Dex had a similar injury before, and took six months to heal. Anybody else hear that? If so, is this the same ankle?

After Sanford's outing in Winnipeg, I'm feeling pretty uncomfortable. Anxious to see how he does in some upcoming games. If he's weak, what are the options?

look at the defense that was in front of him, vs the defense that was in front of Dex/Dainton in Columbus...

And let's not forget the rest of the team.

I've seen Sanford, I'm fairly confident I know what he's about. I'm not concerned.

I was a little more interested in this Dainton. I didn't know what to expect, but he made some pretty good saves and didn't seem to get rattled.

I think that Howson has another piece of business to attend to now. He has to get another goalie. Frankly, for what he signed Dekanich to, even if he ends up in the minors, it's not that big of a deal. Isn't Ray Emery still available? I would feel more comfortable with him as a backup than Sanford. It will be interesting to see what happens. Not saying that this could be a significant bump in the road, but I think that Howson has to proactive in rectifying the situation and making sure that it doesn't put us behind the eight ball.

Dekanich would need to pass through waivers to be sent to Springfield. So, if another goalie is signed, when Dekanich returns there's three goalies. Dekanich would likely be claimed on waivers if he's sent down to Springfield.

I would suggest that there is more of a possibility of my posting harming fluffy bunnies (I've so been thinking of Monty Python this morning) than the Jackets exposing Dek to waivers.

However, they can send Dek down for a conditioning stint obviously.

I don't agree with Kev that we to add another goalie based on this.

While Dekanich could go to the AHL on a conditioning stint, if the Jackets did sign another goalie (say Marty Turco), then they're stuck with Mason- New Free Agent for the rest of the year. Dek would be the odd man out.

They could take a risk on free agent goalie like Pascal Leclaire who might be able to pass thru waivers. But that might not be an upgrade. And York and Dainton need playing time in the minors.

I think you're counting too much on bunnies' inability to read saving them from harm. I'm concerned that some careless bunny owner might read some of your post aloud and then...?
