And the biggest problem is that we can lost PO for one month in West now... unless Masse woke up.

Slim pickins' in the UFA Goalie market. Turco and Emery are the only ones I'd be remotely interested in.

Why didn't GMSH sign Dekanich to a two-way deal?

What makes you think nyi are interested in dealing Nabokov?

Most of you know I'm a goalie, and I had a partial high Ankle spring in March 2009 and it took me 2 months to get back on the ice and another 2 weeks to play completely without pain.

He's out 2 months min.

I posted a thread about acquiring C. Schnieder from Vancouver in the FA/Trade forums.

Unlikely? Yes.

Would we have a problem if/when Deks comes back? Perhaps.

But Schnieder's asking price is less ridiculous than many other starter quality goaltenders, we can see whether he or Mason is better, and could then trade one of Mason or Deks when Dekanich gets healthy. Not to mention Schnieder's history with our coach and goalie coach. I think sticking with Mason and Sanford for longer than a month would be a mistake.

Eddy Lack's play will certainly dictate if Schneider is available or not. However the big issue I see with your scenario is that both Mason and Dekanich will be very hard to trade based on their contracts.

Sanford will be fine. I've seen him play many times (Had season tickets to the Bulldogs) and while he does make his fair share of mistakes, he is perfectly serviceable, especially since he will get few starts.

The weight is on Mase's shoulders remember, if he can't do the job, CBJ will need to make a move for a #1 goaltender and fast.

Someone stole his time machine, so he was unable to see that Dex would sustain a multi-week (possibly multi-month) injury in the first twenty minutes of preseason hockey AND that Sanford would somehow fail to look good with a blueline that consisted of third-string NHLers and second-string AHLers.

Seriously, folks, calm down.

I think it's a legitimate question given that Dekanich is a 5th round draft pick with 1 game of NHL experience.

Acquiring Schneider is overkill to the backup problem.

If Sanford doesn't look like he can cut it for a month (which I really doubt), sign Ray Emery/David Aebischer/Pascal Leclaire. Problem solved.

I understand that getting off to a good start is important but this has always been a Mason performance issue. Dex is a rookie backup. It would seem unlikely that he would be able to come in and carry the team to the promised land this year anyway if Mason fails. Mase can carry the load for a month or so if needed with spot starts from Sanford.

I am more concerned about Mason playing well. If he doesn't we are going to be in a troubling situation regardless. But I'd limit his play in the pre-season and put the no contact jersey on him in practice

Dex wanted a one-way, which teams other than us were willing to give to him.

Not, but I am aware of Dec. 2, 1995.

And one that's been rehashed here so many bloody times to no useful effect that bringing it up yet again for no reason other than OMFG HES INJURED NOW is rather ludicrous and an infuriating waste of time. Why go back to running in circles over something that hasn't been reasonably debated before and is itself unaffected by recent events? You might as well ask why folks didn't settle in Columbus instead of Cleveland.

I'm sorry if I infuriated you, but injury or no injury it wasn't a good contract or signing for that matter IMO.

Sanford was fine for an ahl signing, but I have no confidence that he can step in an play at the NHL level if Mason doesn't play well.

Hey man, I was the one that pointed out the weak defense in the GDT. But it's not all on them.

The defensemen in that game were not helping, but Sanford looked out of position, confused and was flopping around. He did not look like an NHL goalie.

But, it was one game, in a very crazy environment. I hope he can pull it together, because Mason needs a legit backup.

You're right. I make it a point to not watch any preseason games of any sport save the Browns games for drunken Bernie Kosar commentary.

Lets at least wait until the games mean something before we decide anything on Sanford.

Yes sir, I may take some interest in the games played Sunday but that's about it...

At least Sanford has more than 1 NHL game, and some NHL numbers that even Mason would be happy with...

I'm hoping Sanford turns some heads...
