NHL to hold Face Off Festival in Winnipeg

Its a poorly kept secret but the details are now out.

http://www.nhl.com/ice/news.htm?id=589309

The musical performances will be announced next week but various sources have reported it's going to be Nickelback.

Portions of this event will be shown live nationally on CBC and in the US on Versus. The NHL Network will also be in town.

Nice to see it's confirmed.
I'm interested to see who the musical act will be, but don't count me in the group ready to bash Nickleback. It's a free concert, if I don't like the band I won't listen. Plain and simple.

I'm going for the atmosphere too. I have no qualms with Nickelback. It'll be a great way to start the season.

I probably am unable to go no matter who the band is as I need to go to the lake and help get stuff ready for *shudder* winter

But if it is Nickelback... I wouldn't make the time....

If Nickelback's playing I'll just leave when they start. And then come back later. Should be fun to watch the Leafs and Habs play down there.

Let's just appreciate the fact that the NHL decided to hold the festival in Winnipeg. It's a chance for us to show the rest of the league what we're about. I hate Nickelback, but I love the fact that we'll be kicking off the season.

I think the NHL's first choice was Vancouver, but they need somewhere with a low 'tard quotient so there won't be any rioting.

Astounded that the NHL, despite well known newspaper articles and public outcry, still decided to send those idiots. Tragically Hip would've been a hell of a show.

I'll still go if I'm not working. Should be an amazing night.

I think one report said Blue Rodeo was among one of the acts.

Blue Rodeo is playing at the After Burner social at the Convention Centre on October 9th after the Habs game.

I actually WANT Nickelback to come and I'm NOT a fan. Reason: My girlfriend is not a big hockey fan and this will lure her to come to the party as she LOVES Nickelback. If she can tolerate the hockey frenzy, I can tolerate Nickelback

Why does it matter who they send? I hate The Hip just as much as I hate Nickelback.. No matter who they send, someones going to hate it, the point is the celebration and having the privilege of it being held here. I'll go regardless that for sure, there won't be any bands playing that I like.

I'm holding out for a good Zach Bogosian picture that I can make into an avatar. So... if anyone see's one along their travels, please link me to it.

I won't be attending and Nickleback is a huge reason as to why. I Don't want to dumb down my though process by listening to them.

At first it was cool to like Nickelback. Then it was cool to hate Nickelback. Now that trend has run it's course too.

The band is what it is. I'm just glad the 'Peg is getting more love.

I'm no fan of Nickelback, but I won't let them stop me from attending this. What a great reason to spotlight our city. There will be plenty of interactive things to see and do.

It also helps that I live across the street

Ya, traffic will be bad. At least you live close. I'm in the St.Vital, so the drive would take a while and I get deal with enough traffic as is.

Hope it's a good time for those that attend

Do you know if people with game tickets still have to pay $43 to enter to social? That's pretty steep for a social ticket! And... how did they determine that number? haha... If they were smart they would've set it at $39!

Man I don't know how you deal with that route on a daily basis.

St. Vital is a great part of town to live in, it's just getting to/ from that's terrible.

It won't be getting any better, with the lack of main roads and higher traffic volume. I'm really considering a move just outside Winnipeg at some point. City life is a killer
