Yes, we have a logjam at D, and that won't play in his favour, esp with Jones on a 1 way.

Then again, it could pave the way for a trade to shore up our goaltending or our scoring. I know it's not exactly the "Jets Way," but I think there could be some interesting trades made with say an Oduya/Burmi combo.

Keep in mind, they're just OPINIONS (I'm looking at you, Lynk), really more IDEAS than opinions, even. That said, I'm interested in your feedback - what could we get?

I'd be hoping for a trade with Philly, maybe. Leighton/Bob could make nice backups and keep the pressure off of Pavs.

Do I really have that reputation already... Man I thought we'd at least be half way through the season at least. Ah well.

Nah, I'm not here often enough to know anybody's rep.. not well anyway. I trolled the 'yotes board for a couple years, but I didn't actually join the site until word became official that it would be the Thrashers coming to the 'Peg.

I try to stay off forums cos I can't seem to keep myself out of flamewars haha!

That was an unfair reply to a fellow member here. They are entitled to their opinion, period.
People are entitled to their opinions, but come on. Postma over Hainsey? It's clear that anyone saying that hasn't watched a single second of the Thrashers. Postma has had a very good pre season, but Hainsey is a vet, and one of the teams best defensive defenseman.

Don't you think if people started saying that we should start Gregoire and Clark over Ladd and Kane because they look better that they should be told that that is not going to happen?

You are suggesting that we trade Burmistov?

I'm excited to see the cuts, should be a pretty drastic amount as Noel said he'd like to get down to around 30 and start with 25 (I believe he said?) to start the season.

If Aebischer is on the bubble.... wouldnt that make Mason on the bubble as well?

Or are you talking about getting a contract for St John's?

Noel said he expected to make cuts and bring us down to around 30, but start the season with 25.

So, these are my approx. 30 players, but my number sits at 29 after the cuts here.

To get a contract for St. John's. Pavelec and Mason are the clear cut #1 and #2. Even the AHL starting job is Pasquale's to lose.

That said, Aebischer did play better than expected, so I think he's earned a longer look.

Defense seems pretty locked for 1-6... there's room for a 7th but there is a lot of looking required still... Hainsey was the senior guy on the defense last year correct? So perhaps that is where Jones comes in... he hasn't played inspired yet but he'll get some time in the next two games.

I think there is no change in the goaltending... Aebischer doesn't look like a replacement for Mason.

Tuesday the ax will drop and we will be down to 30 or less...
This is where I really don't like the Wellwood signing. There are several players from among our prospects who should get a spot over some smurf with baggage. Klingberg, Cormier, Maxwell, or even Scheifele come to mind .....

No real surprises there. Kulda perhaps, but with the amount of defensive depth and the emergence of Brett Festerling, someone had to go.

Agreed. I think of the 3 D-men on the verge (Postma, Festerling and Kulda) Kulda was least impressive.
All the cuts seem about right to me.

So I was a few off. Cormier, Aebischer, Koci stay. I had them to go. Should get a lot more interesting from here on out.

I feel bad for Kulda.

He wasn't flashy, but he was a steady and solid defensive defenseman.

I blame Randy Jones.

I don't think Mason is in any real danger of losing his job, but Aebischer has proven that he's still an NHL-calibre backup.

IMO, the Jets will keep him until the end of camp before waiving him. That way another team looking for a backup might claim him.

Um...It is impossible for the Jets to start the season with 25 since the roster max is 23.

Sucks that Kulda had to go, would have kept him over Meech. I know Kulda does not have much NHL experience but someone with no defensive depth might think for a second about a young guy with lots of upside as a defensive defenseman on waivers...Very unlikely but hopefully he clears.

Looks like there is no word there on FA tryouts, but I expect Koci at very least to be ditched today as well.

Jets cannot waive him since they do not have his rights...right now he has no contract, he is free to sign with any team in the league at any time.

The article indicated 2 players were injured. I have no idea who those 2 players are. It was in yesterdays Illegal Curve and was an article from the Winnipeg Free Press, I believe. I don't have time to look for it at the moment, but will do so later if nobody else digs it up.

The link with the cuts indicates Eric Fehr, Kendall McArdle and Aaron Gagnon are currently injured. Did not realize that was what you were reffering to.
