Terrible Ice in Baltimore for Caps vs. Preds

This was a tweeted pic from Katie Carrera with the Washington Post. Apparently, it's really warm in the arena.

That's what happens when you try to hold an NHL game in Baltimore for some stupid reason.

Sources say they're giving up and having a ball-hockey game instead.

Seriously, why is their game in Baltimore? Stupid.

Cracks are supposedly below the surface so it's not nearly as bad as it looks. I guess we'll see...

All you need is someone to fall through (I know it's not that deep but it'd be enough to injure someone) .

Total lack of regard for player safety here. Hopefully no players get injured from this idiocy.

Guys the cracks are below the surface... I've played on ice that looks like that and I didn't notice the cracks. It's still a sign of poor maintenance though so something else could be wrong with the ice.

I'm sure the players will be fine.

Cancel the game and give refunds to the 20 people who were dumb enough to go see that game.

The fissures in the ice are believed to be below the surface. The comment I've seen repeatedly in the media is "the ice is better than it was at the Winter Classic."

Still seems to be pretty substandard though. If I was the players I would refuse to play under such ridiculous conditions.

So the ice is slightly better than atrocious then? That is not saying too much unfortunately.

Or, you love hockey and you're getting paid a ton of money, so you don't mind. You know, either one.

What does how much money they make have to do with anything? Unsafe is unsafe, people have the right to refuse unsafe work conditions.

No, you wouldn't. You'd actually go out and look at the ice first-hand instead of relying on a tweeted picture.

I'd expect a lot of crack in Baltimore.

Baltimore is one of the most dangerous cities; maybe a hood rat stole the ice

They're awfully lucky Byfuglien doesn't play for the Caps or Preds.

And as always Fehr Time provides the comedic gold, I'm not even sure if he's serious with most of the stuff he posts. It's funnier if he is.

I'm convinced he's only trying to make unions look bad, still entertaining though.

Anyways that ice looks NASTY, but I'm not really convinced you could tell if it's unsafe without skating on it.

If this were an NHL arena I'd be worried, but since it's a one-time event (like the WC as mentioned above) I'm guessing the concerns are pretty minor.

Besides, the Caps are used to playing on crappy ice. Home ice advantage!
