Supernatural is notorious for doing that. Season four...the gates of hell are breaking open...is anything being done? Nope.
Season five...the devil is walking the earth and instead of actively trying to find him or actively trying to hide from him...
They do nothing.
Its always with the same excuse. Well we have no idea where they are or what they're doing...do instead of trying to find them, we'll continue on as if nothing is happening.
That's just bad and un-inspiring writing that's all.
This season is painful and I watch it more out of habit then anything. The characters are weak after all the development us done. The dialogue is ****, it used to be very clever and had the right amount of jokes. Now it's dean yelling all the time, and really just mindless dribble. The only character I still enjoy is Crowley, but they don't do enough with him.
When I look at supernaturals counterparts like the X-Files, Buffy and Angel...the end of the world was made a priority and not constant monster of the week(or weak as the case maybe) episodes.
If you cant make next season better or atleast have the same quality you dont make a next season. I think Buffy the vampire slayer is the only show i have watched where it only got better/kept the same quality for 7 seasons without doing the same thing over and over. Buffy was brilliant in many ways, but most important, almost every episode after season 2 had something to do with the main story. Even monster of the week episodes.
The main story should be followed in every episode, that is the way i want my series to be. Monster of the week episodes can be really good sometimes, if they serve a greater purpose. It feels like the supernatural monster of the week episodes these days doesnt serve a purpose other then making the series longer. A serie should tell a story, not random events.
Which is quite funny becuse Ben Edlund who is excutive/consulting producer for Supernatural has worked with Joss Whedon on Angel and Firefly. You might think he learned something from working with joss the boss...
Supernatural was my favourite serie and i was 1000% convinced that nothing could beat it at the end of season 5 when sam went into hell with lucifer/Micheal. Thats when it was at its best if you ask me.
But since then it has been slowly getting worse. The series still has its awesome episodes but the main stories sucks hard and there are too many fillers / bad writing.
If you ask me, they should have continued with the angel / god thing for another season. In supernatural there are many gods as we have learned through out the series. There should be some powerfull ones that could be used as a big bad or something like that......
And Buffy was amazing, except season six. It had dome of the best episodes, but it lacked the unifying factor that the other seasons had. The trio was a great concept, but it was poorly executed. One of Joss's few faults in the series.
I really think supernatural was at it's best for seasons 1-4 and five was ok. 6-7 sucked. I thought the Hollywood episode was pure brilliance as well as the genie episode. The black and white episode was also great. There were so many great episodes in those first few seasons and genius villains.
It's definitely fallen off...and I'm really hoping that it's done after this season so I can have my Friday nights back lol.
The problem is that they sort of painted themselves into a corner. I mean, where else can you go after defeating Lucifer himself? I don't think the producers thought that they'd ever go beyond season 5.

Initially no. That's as far as kripke wanted to go, but they kept going after the success of the fifth season. Anyways kripke stopped having anything to do with the show...it's all ran by sera gamble.

Not really.. they could have contunued with the series in a good way.
If i was in charge season 6 might have been something like this to sum it up:
Through out the series we have heard that there are many gods, old ones. Paris hilton was an old pagan god for example..... ( )
Anyway, of all the old gods, there should have been atleast one who are powerfull, powerfull enough to become season sixs big bad.
Lisa dies and Dean leaves ben to become a hunter again. Dean brings back Sam from hell through death, as a prize dean has one year left to live which Dean never tells Sam and at the end of season sam sacrifaces himself to protect Dean so he could live on and raise ben. But Dean dies anyway due to his deal...
The end. They are both dead and all that remain is Ben and Bobby. Or something like that...
(Something i just made up now, but i still think it sounds better then what they did )

Last nights episode wasn't bad, but the show continues to do the same thing. Make a phone call looking for info, can't find anything? Excellent. We can carry on with our lived now instead of dealing with the problem at hand. You know...the storyline.
The actual episode was good, the twist was a little predictable. At least this time dean didn't spend the whole time yelling.
I dont know about anyone else, but I'm kind of over Sam's tortured soul and seeing Lucifer everywhere he looks. Kind of a minor plot point.

Yeah, I was actually glad he was done with. Until now... Though he did provide us with a couple of funny lines: "Hit her!"

Yea, I do like Mark Pellegrino. But, deal with the leviathan! They had a huge break through with the cleaning solution...do something with it!
The old sam and dean would be tracking them down, not relying on some old fat guy in a rapist van to figure **** out for them. They used to do research and stuff...then they just started relying on Bobby to do it all for them...now they've just found another crotchety old MFN to do it for them.
Terrible. Bring back the rock anthems and the impala and actually getting down and dirty like they used to.
I personally thought the episode was fantastic all the lucifer scenes were GOLD
In the end, I'm pretty sure lucifer will be the reason why they stop the leviathans one way or another.
Since Lucifer seems to have more knowledge than Sam about things, it's looking very likely. He'll probably hint them something about the leviathans or something.
Cas is in the new episode of Supernatural. I saw him in a trailer for "Out With the Old in With the New" and he's listed as part of the cast for that episode on imbd. I wonder if it's going to be a one time thing, or if they're actually going to go somewhere with it.
Yea that makes no sense. If lucifer is really only in Sam's head...shouldn't they know the same things?
Well, they have shown that lucifer knows and remembers things from sam's head that sam himself can't get to. I'm assuming sam knows how to deal with the leviathans from when he was stuck in the "oven" if you will
Aah, Cas... Awesome scene when he "smited" the demons and started remembering things. I could see Cas transferring Lucifer to another person/demon to get his head straight, maybe Crowley? Is it just me or did Meg/Rachel Miner suddenly develop a fat head?

Got fat? I thought it was just a different fat person playing meg
I don't see how cas can transfer his head problems to someone else, if it was that easy he would have just teleported to whomever and done it there and then.
Unless that IS how they are actually going to do and stick lucifer into dick roman's head and drive him off a cliff.

Rachel Miner was rather skinny when she was on Californication and previously on Supernatural, so I wouldn't say she got fat. The rest of her body looked normal/healthy, just her head looked fat compared to what she previously looked like.
I could actually see them sticking Lucifer into Dick Roman, even if to distract him.
