24 Sept 2011 - Wild @ Pens - 2PM - NHL Network/KFAN

2PM - Consol Energy Center - NHL Network & KFAN

Latendresse-Cullen-Bouchard
Gillies-Nystrom-Palmer

Taffe – Peters – Ortmeyer

DiSalvatore – McIntyre – TBD (Wellman?)

Stoner-Spurgeon

Falk-Hendry

Penner – TBD

Backstrom
Endras

Pascal Dupuis, Richard Park, Chris Kunitz, Ryan Craig, Matt Cooke, Eric Tangradi, Nick Johnson, Steve MacIntyre, Colin McDonald, Aaron Asham, Joe Vitale, Evgeni Malkin

Matt Niskanen, Zbynek Michalek, Brian Strait, Alexandre Picard, Kris Letang, Joseph Morrow

Scott Monroe, Brad Thiessen

Yeo's facing his old team for the first time. Can't say I'm super optimistic about this one, because I think I've actually heard of more of the Penguins' players than our own. Lots of regulars in the bunch for Pittsburgh.

Great to see Richard Park on the Pens lineup.

McIntyre is sure getting a lot of looks. Anyone else think he's the favorite to share that 13th forward/4th line spot with Staubitz? If he does make it, does that move Nystrom back to wing?

You know, I wouldn't mind somebody boarding Matt Cooke. With an elbow. Head first.

What's the over/under on games Cooke plays before Shanny kicks him out of the league for the rest of the season?

I think it would be better if Staubitz could dress for this game.

Honestly, as much as I dislike Matt Cooke, I could see him cleaning his act up this year- well, compared to what we are used to. Unless he was priming Shanny for the sympathy card, he's spoken out a few times this offseason about how he needs to change how he plays the game. His agent had to have told him he would be playing in the beer leagues if another Marc Savard incident happened this year.

That said, I wouldn't mind if Puhis' wishes came true.

I don't think Matt Cooke has a place in NHL. Honestly. I'm all in for big hits, even borderline legal ones, but the Savard incident wasn't a) the only one and b) even remotely acceptable. Honestly. He only did that to injure Savard severely, and I wouldn't have wondered if Savard would've broken his neck there. That's paralysis at least.

The question is... Why? What kind of a twisted human being wants to hit another player with an elbow, blindside, to the head so his head snaps to side like a crisp under one's finger?

So yeah, I wouldn't mind at all he, let's say, gets accidentally run over by a Zamboni or something.

Sounds like some Pens fans are still shocked Yeo is coaching the Wild.

Last night was the first time i have ever watched him play, but from what i saw i think he could play on a 4th line in the NHL right now. I am not sure if the Wild have any higher hopes for him or not, but I would have zero problem with him making the team as the 12-13th forward.
The kid plays hard, smart, and has a little bit of grit to his game.

As for your Nystrom question. I really dont want Nystrom to have to play center this year. Why not bring Madden back if none of the young kids have proven to be ready to take his spot?

Edit: must not be anything serious.

The answer is simple. He plays like that because he is paid to play like that. Apparently that's a contributor to some of the enforcers' dependency issues leaguewide.

That Fedoruk article posted in another thread was a perfect example of that. Even with all of his baggage, the documented issues with cocaine and painkiller abuse- just knowing there's a chance for relapse with the added pressure that comes with that role, the Canucks' GM says if Todd Fedoruk makes the squad, they expect him to play like Todd Fedoruk. Matt Cooke is in the same boat. His name doesn't go on a dotted line unless he gets us talking about him the way we do.

So basically, the Matt Cooke's of the NHL exists because of a demand, not because of a surplus of supply.

Wellman started practicing again yesterday. One day of practice isn't a ton of time to get back after an injury, but when you're in Wellman's situation, you better be able to handle it.

Guessing Channel 2 is the Wild vs. Penguins game for the As Yet Undecided link? Maple Leafs vs. Sabres is on Channel 1.
