Meanwhile, I heard from a media talking head/former Devil that Parise rejected an 8 year pact worth between 50-60 million and that Vanderbeek and Lou are pissed as is this player because his agent said that what he would expect and would accept.
I had a source on the inside, he saw the war room and names on the board. Lou had the Coyotes smuggle him back across the Mexican border and works as a mop up guy at Pappas and Beer on the Baja. Nice fella that Pico was.

I won't address Eklund, you know his track record, plus he hates the Devils.
The ones I read on njdevs.com seemed credible enough, the guy posted a photo of himself and relayed a conversation he had with Chico. Another poster chimed in about how Chico has strong opinions off camera and then told of how Vanderbeek wants to sell the players and Lou doesn't and how Parise is annoyed that Kovy was brought in and likes star power. He said he witnesses when the stars where in town, that Lou wasn't big on promoting the stars. He also claims this is his last year as GM and Vanderbeek and cited the minor league team and Lou large payroll of scouts, etc.

That guy has enough money to buy the team twice. Even if he did, he'd still be a minority owner.

So if we push aside the NY Post tabloid exaggeration, this is great news. Vanderbeek seems to be a pretty darn good owner. Now let's get Parise re-signed. No ownership issues anymore.
That was rumor the Summer signed Kovalchuk as an enticement to sell the team with arena to the man worth 17 billion. He's a huge basketball guy and hellbent on Brooklyn.
A great minority owner would be Joe Piscopo if he had the money or a guy like Bon Jovi. Maybe the Simon family buys more stake?
Best scenario for Vanderbeek is getting more acts in the building and the Devils going deep a few rounds for a few years and winning a cup and getting an investor in a profitable venture.

Well, those are two contrasting claims: Parise didn't sign long term because he rejected a long deal, or because the minority owners wouldn't go longer. Either one seems plausible to me.
Since VBK was the managing partner I'm not sure the minority owner would have the power to veto a long term deal.
If you think the Devils wanted a 1 year deal, then I think VBK wanting/needing to keep his long term liabilities lower for the refinancing of the $100 million would be more reasonable.
So if I could put out my theory. It seems like Chambers wanted this to be a quick investment in building the arena but the economy screwed him up and instead of waiting it out til it all gets better he wanted out and was willing to pay instead of paying down the debt with money out of his pocket that he didn't expect to pay.
My problem with posts like that one on NJDevs(and yeah he has the picture), is 1) how do I actually know what is said in the conversation, and that this isn't just BIGGGG NEWWWZZZ to make yourself look good... and 2) if it is legit, how the hell do you have a conversation with someone like that and just splatter it all over the internet?
