Wow Cumiskey really? I would love for Garth to pick him up!
You may be over-valuing him a bit. Cumiskey is insanely fast and....and....well that's it. He has no head for the game, and can't compensate by just being an overly physical shutdown guy because of his size. No offensive flair whatsoever. Poorly timed injuries have prevented him from establishing any kind of role on the team. His goal against Atlanta is probably greater than all of his other accomplishments combined.
I feel bad for hating on the guy so much (he seems to try) but the holes in his game exclude him from every traditional team role.
I would be surprised (and slightly relieved) if somebody claimed him.
I like Cumiskey, but hes too fast for his own good. When he is standing still, he can make some pretty good outlet passes. The problem is, once he gets moving, he just holds onto the puck for too long and the whole play gets shutdown. If he could just read the play as he was skating, he would be a good transitional player.
He's good at skating the puck up ice. He's fast, but he has no clue what to do once he gets in the offensive zone. Most of the time he turns it over or attempts a weak shot that would have gone wide of the net if it hadn't been intercepted.
His redeeming quality, though, is that he is fast enough to skate back and often get a face-saving poke check to minimize the damage.
Defensively, he's just too small and weak, and gets pushed around by any forward with any size/strength.
MAB has much more offensive talent than Cumiskey has. Cumiskey has never put up great numbers and his decision making with the puck is very poor and his shot highly average, which makes him a poor PP qb. From time to time he throws a great pass that makes you get your hopes up, but after that it's back to the same old thing.
Cumiskey is a undersized speedster with no real offensive talent. If he does anything well, it's that he makes a great pressure valve through his ability to carry the puck through the neutral zone. His speed and stickhandling are his only real strengths.
Cumiskey is a great actor. He gets the puck, screams into the offensive zone. When he gets into the offensive zone you are on the edge of your seat.. You may even think you're seeing a resurrection of Bobby Orr in your team's jersey.
Cumiskey pulls a deke surprisingly... But what's this? He's deking away from the net? Cheeky ******* he must have something planned.
He's at the blueline... He should be cutting to the middle... sometime... soo--.. what.
He's in the corner... Where's the puck... Oh wait it's in our net... How did he lose the puck... again...?
I love how people say he's a great skater... he's fast, he can't even stay on his feet because he moves too fast. He blows a tire to allow an odd man rush at least twice a game. His goals were all luck minus his Atlanta goal in which he really just got lucky his hands kept up with his feet that time.
He's also getting waived since he's on a 2-way deal. Easy decision when you put everything together.
Although I'd take Cumiskey over Lebda 10 times out of 10.
