Very strange... Hammill is still on his ELC. It slid a year. (This has been discussed elsewhere here.) He had enough seasons in junior to make the AHL a year early, and playing in the AHL at 18 or 19 on an ELC causes it to slide.

Curious that he would be waiver eligible.

Doubt he's claimed though, or any of these other guys.

I agree with you, however there might be some team out there that just can't resist taking a look at a recent top 10 pick.

If Sestito gets suspended, does that mean the Flyers wouldn't be able to assign him to the AHL (and get him off their cap) until afterwards?

Former 8th overall pick (2007), still very young. Low risk / high reward... I doubt he's going to clear.

Hamil has looked like a different person this pre-season.. I doubt he passes through waivers.

Haven't seen him this season, but his time in the pro's last season, he didn't look out of place on the 3rd line. Young 3rd line player with potential; fairly low cap hit, someone may take a flier on him. Toronto, Phoenix, Calgary, Nashville?

An ELS contract sliding does not effect waiver eligibility.

He signed his ELS deal in '07 as a 19 yo w.r.t. waivers - he would be waiver exempt for 4 years or 160 NHL games whichever comes first. His waiver exemption expired at the end of '10-'11.

Note that Article 9 (ELS) and Article 13 (Waivers) use a different definition of "age".

Under Article 9 (age as of 9/15), Hamill (DOB 9/23/88) was considered an 18 yo for the ELS system and his ELS deal slid two times (as an 18 yo & 19 yo). This is the final year of his ELS deal.

Under Article 13 (age as of 12/31), he was considered a 19 yo for Waivers - so his waiver exemption was for 4 years (19 yo), instead of 5 (18 yo).

OK, so I know I said that there was no way that Valentenko would pass through waivers (and he did), but I need you guys to forget I ever said that. Because...

There's NO WAY that Hamill passes through waivers. I mean... come on. Someone's going to grab this kid to play on their 4th line at the very least.

You're the man. I gotta run, but the Bruins board could use this information. If not done by the time I'm back at my computer, I'll copy it over there.

His ELC did slide and he's STILL waiver eligible. Different age-determining requisites for different situations.

Good work.

I'm not entirely sure how it works. The Leafs had a reverse situation with Kadri who was suspended 2 games by the AHL just as we called him up. Served it once he was sent back.

Hamill good Port Coquitlam kid, I always thought Boston was a hard place for him to be. That team is just too deep. Hopefully he gets picked up by a team he has a shot with. Good luck.

I'm pretty sure he can be sent down but would have to be on the active NHL roster and serve his games before he gets into another NHL game. Same thing as with Steve downie when he was suspended for hitting dean mcammond a few years back. The flyers recalled him numerous times when they had a game and their ahl affiliate had an off day until the full suspension was served.

Was Kulda really not good enough to beat out Meech, Jones, and Festerling? That's surprising.

I wouldn't hate if Montreal picked up Sestito to possibly center the fourth line.

6'5 and willing to use it is something we could use

Jones? Yes, but Festerling and Meech have played well this pre-season as well as Postma who has 2 goals. A lot of competition for the 7th and 8th spot.

Also, no reason to have him sit in the pressbox all year when he can be on the first pair on the Ice Caps

Send kadri down and grab hamill. U don't pass up on a free asset that's actually half-decent, and kadri could use the time

The Flyers had this same situation with Steve Downie a couple of years ago, I think. They were allowed to assign him and called him up here and there to serve his suspension.

If I remember correctly, a player can be sent down at any time regardless of suspension. Later on when that player is called up he must serve his suspension before he can play.

His brother Tim (NJ) is a center. Tom is a big winger.

ah that makes more sense. I thought Sestito was highly touted, guess it's his brother!
