There was a mistake per McKenzie: EDM Journal report was mistaken, no further discipline pending against Ryan Smyth. Journal mistake was typo related. Been there. Done that.

Unbelieveable.

It's beyond words how retarded the suspensions have gotten. What the hell was Smyth supposed to do there? Just get buried by a charging Kunitz? You are taught all through hockey to do exactly what Smyth did when someone takes a run at you while you are in a defenseless position, and now that's worth a suspension? Retarded.

The Bouchard suspension was probably the least deserved suspension I'v ever seen, and now he's on to this. Just plain stupid.

is there a clip of that play? I just saw it live and thought Smyth got the penalty for the one hand full swing chop he gave the guy while he was down on ice. Im probably way off.

I was wondering why it was so quiet on that front, particularily since the league came down so hard on Bouchard the other day.

I can't say I like it but that may be the Oilers fan in me talking.

(I actually thought the stick coming down after the hit was more dangerous that the so called elbow)

Any one know if Smyth is a repeat offender?

I gotta say as much as it sucks, players need to be held accountable for their body position. If it means overdoing it a bit so everyone gets the message so be it. My guess is one game.

You mess with the Bull and you get the horn, seems fair to me. The way Smytty brought that stick down on toppa Kunitz trying to make it look like an accident. Nobody brought that stick down on top of you like an axe and made it look like an accident better than Glen Anderson. Well done Smytty.

Had the Oilers pegged for six suspensions this yr but Smytty wasn`t one of the players i thought would be included.

Joanne Ireland just corrected her tweet and said there will NOT be further discipline to Smyth.

I think they may have forgotten to add no between "be" and "further"

It’s back to business for Oilers winger Ryan Smyth.

The NHL’s department of Player Safety has reviewed his third period hit on the Pittsburgh Penguin’s Chris Kunitz and decided there would be no further penalty.

Smyth received a five minute major and a misconduct. The Oilers went on to register a 2-1 shootout victory.

Well, I guess I take back what I said earlier

I'm still not impressed with many of the suspensions Shanny is dishing out like they're going out of style.

I'm curious what brought you to the conclusion that the Oilers would get six suspensions this year. To me, this is simply outrageous.

Gotta love the Journal. I was wondering how accurate they were to have info before Bobby Mac.

I actually buy both for Oiler news...Not a lot of choices. I do agree, however, that both suck at it....especially with the Sun's constant bleeting about Katz and the arena deal. Anyone notice they don't print any letters in favour of it? I sent a few but they never get published..

Sorry, got off track...

After watching the game and seeing the replays, I thought he would get at least one game and probably 2. Sticking your elbow in a players face that is going to cleanly hit you is not acceptable. If RNH was going in for a hit and a player did that to him, I'd be super pissed if there was no suspension. Thankfully Kunitz didn't get a concussion, but this is how they happen.

Kerry put a good analysis on tsn's website.

I use the online sources. I don't know that matheson and jones actually watch practice anymore. I picture them sleeping. When guys like Tencer and Gregor are tweeting everyday from practice I'll use them as my reference.

I never saw the hit yet, and I agree to some degree. But is 5 and 10 not enough?

Really? We used to make fun of guys that "protected" themselves like that. It was a penalty, but not suspension worthy.

From the eyes of Kerry Fraser regarding the penalty Ryan Smyth received.
