Matt Duchene vs. John Tavares Now/Future

They both have similar roles on their team, but Duchene has succeeded with less prominent linemates. So who would you chose now and in the future?

Tavares for both.

It's very close. I think Tavares will be about an 80-90 point player, while Duchene will be a 70-80 point player. I think Tavares will play longer, too, and better for longer than Duchene will.

There is no way to make the judgement call on who is better. No matter what you say.

Tavares has played with 'worse' linemates. Well Duchene hasn't had a linemate with 30 goals.
Duchene has Stastny to take the pressure off him. Well Tavares has a host of supporting wingers to feed to.

Can't even tell who will be better in the future. Duchene I believe is much flashier than Tavares, so that could work either way for him. Tavares certainly seems to have the cooler nerves than Duchene.

I think we still need a few more years to make this decision. And even then, if Duchene doesn't get a winger that can be depended on in the way Tavares/Moulson have clicked or with Nino coming up for Tavares, then the debate could be decided for them by way linemates.

Today? I'll take Duchene by a hair, he's lighter on his skates and has end-end scoring ability a bit more than Tavares I'd like to say. Tavares' vision and puck awareness is really the only advantage I see him having over Duchene overall.

Ugh, why do I hate choosing?

Now- Duchene, but barely.
Future-Tavares

I really like Tavares' game and I believe he is a 75-85 point guy, while Duchene is more complete and a 70-75 point guy, really close though. They both have crazy potential though.

Should have had a "Deja vu" option in the poll.

Tavares now and the future and I wouldn't think twice. Tavares has the potential to be the best player in the league, Duchene, no offense to him, will never be close to that.

Like most here, I'm in the same line of thinking.

Duchene will be great, but I think Tavares is, and always will be the better player.

God damn I wish the Leafs had either player. If I had to choose between the two, I'd take Johnny T, though.

And THIS is one of the reasons why Tavares has become overrated.

He has a great future ahead of him but i think that some of these expectations of him are getting a little looney.
