Phaneuf was called for a penalty on that hit...but i don't think he was called to the "Principles" Office tho..... I was fine with Phaneufs hit on Ryan .... Boyes didn't get a penalty at all and is getting a summoned to Shannys office..

I know Boyes laid out some good hits last night...but i can't recall the hit they referring to...so..we'll just have to wait.

What hit was this? I think it couldve been the hit on Colborne at the beginning of the game. Looked questionable.

First period, in front of the Leaf net, no call on the play. We'll find out what Shanny says.

Now did Armstrong get called to the carpet for his ****** bag move on Gaustad too?

Why is everyone getting suspended? Did Shanny grow a vagina?

OFF WITH HIS HEAD!

But seriously, ummm, the NHL is going a little overboard with this. Feast or famine I guess. Had the league's biggest superstar not been so affected by concussion syndromes, I wonder if they would be looking at everything under a microscope like they are now...

When I first saw that hit my initial thought was it looked like an elbow to the head and was surprised a penalty wasn't called. I could be wrong though.

Missed the first period, so I didn't see the hit.

Armstrong better be having a chat too, for skating from the middle of the ice to the boards, at Gaustad's numbers the whole way.

Because Crosby got injured in the open ice. Therefore we only need to crack down on those hits.

It's so odd that they can't hold more than one item in mind when dealing with these sort of things.

I was thinking the same thing, Armstrongs hit was way worse.

i also think SHanny might just be trying to set precedant during the preseason..going a bit overboard now to show players what isnt acceptable...i have no problem with what he's doing for now

Shanny is just a figurehead ... a PR person.....

I find it ironic that a guy who bashed peoples heads with his fists and was known to throw a few questionable hits in his day is now lecturing and condeming all these players ...

This is just getting silly..... taking it way overboard...

In a few years we won't even have North American Hockey ... it will turn into the Swiss Elite League ..... While I love pretty plays and skill as much as the next guy..... It's the physicality of the game that i love the most. And it will be taken away with the direction it's going...

Are we really going to suspend people that go in for a hit shoulder to shoulder ...but..for some reason... either height or natural physics ..the guys shoulder rolls off the other ones and hits him in the head?

No kidding. Unfortunately, hitting someone in the numbers and sending them headfirst into the boards isn't the NHL's current initiative, and, as you mentioned, they like to focus on one thing at a time.

I have to say, the reaction by fans is juvenile. This isn't a witch hunt, this is the league getting serious about eliminating head hits. Pro athletes are big boys, they will figure out how to keep hitting without knocking players heads off.

I second this.

JFYI this is when Boyes delivered the in-question blindside/headshot to Toronto's Joe Colborne... and here it is:
