Well we're icing what, one, two, maybe three NHL-ready defensemen?
Defensive game has 50% to do with the defenseman.

You were totally right WS...he's really solid and his defensive awareness is through the roof for a kid that age. If there was room I'd definitely keep him!

Marchant should of dropped them with Gallagher, he would of gotten pounded by the rookie.

For those who are in panic mode right now, remember that a certain Mariusz Czerkawski already had one really good preseason and well he didn't even finish the season in Montreal if my memory is good. So preseason means nothing as long as the vets don't look completely out of shape, there's no way this is an image of our season.

Leblanc, Eller, Desharnais, Bournival all would have made a different feeling for the pre-season.

Yes, because they would've had offensive presence. We only had 2 offensive centers for all of pre-season.

Yes, there are stories like that. Not THAT long ago, I remember how Leafs fans thought they had discovered the 2nd coming of Gretzky. One guy was lights out during preseason, you have to know him, he's the very popular.....Alexander Suglobov. I mean, it was hilarious how they thought he was great and then....pouf.....lasted what? 20 regular games?

But it's not what it's about here. Mostly, you have some rookies who need to play like it's playoff time 'cause if not, it means no start in the NHL for them. As far as goalies are concerned, you have to be sure that they improve as the games pass by. And honestly, when they play great, you are reassured. I mean, Ryan Miller didn't let 12 goals when we met him...he looked like the incredibly solid Miller we love and adore.

So of course it's not an image of our season....it's not even US who are playing. But you can be satisfied or dissatisfied with some people's performance. Just normal.

Yup, which is why I'm not at all worried.

Also, one game of Subban, none of White. Conboy out. Nash.

All these guys...Willsie, Henry, Masse...they're all plugs..brutal, but I never expected much from them anyway because they were never going to be on the team or be the first to be called up.

These were the players I was most interested in coming into pre-season

Palushaj
Bournival
Leblanc
Beaulieu
Nash
Eller
Desharnais
Conboy
Gallagher

Only 3 of these players played.

Not a bad game with the group we had dressed...too bad Budaj looked like an ECHL goalie and let it 2 or 3 terrible ones. It very much looked like a preseason game, lots of broken play and turnovers.

Hopefully we get down to 25-26 players by midweek to work on defense and systems. After tomorrow the preseason sched eases up a lot.
