Kyle Turris surprise 30 goal scorer this year

It's looking more and more like he will be centering first line. I wouldn't be surprised if he turns into a a 30 goal scorer this year.

Doesn't he need a contract to play?

He can't play if he's not signed. He might never play again for the Coyotees.

Ok, so far you're right on it being a surprise, but now how about explaining how after missing a good chunk of training camp and not even being signed does he look that good...or did you mean someone else?

In the KHL it's rare for such a young player to score 30.

This is the wrong forum to be giving updates for your NHL12 season.

On an offensive powerhouse like Phoenix, I'd say it's possible. But with a run-n-gun style coach, especially one who favors young guys without established track records like Tippett, I can definitely see Turris putting up 30 or 40 goals at least.

I think Kyle Turris will surprise us all in Be a GM.

Turris will never get $3 million a year. He'll eventually suck it up, take a lower contract, and prove this year that he is worth it. He wants the money badly. Money is a great motivator to puck the puck in the net.

We'll see. It's not looking good at all right now. If he keeps missing time in preseason he'll lose a step on everyone els

In all seriousness, when was the last time a player scored more goals than they had total points the previous year?

Assuming he actually gets signed, as well as gets significant ice time, it wouldn't surprise me to see him break out big time.

Though any speculation on his production is pointless until we know his situation.

Right off the top of my head, I believe David Backes did it when he scored 31 goals two years ago.

Actually, Backes had 31 points followed by 31 goals. He didn't score more goals than points from the previous year. Although that's a close comparison. To use your example, though, I don't think Turris has half of the drive Backes does. Turris doesn't, or at least hasn't shown that warrior mentality that allows that kind of leap.

Can you name any other players that had such a leap? My point is not that there aren't any (I'm not sure, honestly) but that the players that do it are a cut above Turris.

Brooks Laich in 07-08 too.

Also, Cheechoo in 03-04-- went from 9-7-16 in 66 games to 28-19-48 in 81 games.

Big whoop, you're making a deal over 31 pts being the same as 31 goals. Zach Parise also had a huge jump from a 32 pts season to a 61 pts season--31 points coming from goals. Big leaps in production DO happen. Turris hardly gets the ice time to show 'his drive'.

Stafford was close last year, going from 34 points to 31 goals.

But the thread title says that he'd be a surprise 30 goal scorer. So would you be surprised or not?

BTW, put me down as a no vote. Even if he signs, he's missing preseason, and players who miss preseason tend to have bad seasons. I think he's due for a breakout, but not that big of a jump when he misses preseason.
