NYR-L.A. Proposal

I know I'll get flamed for this one, again, but screw it.
To L.A.- Poti, 3rd.
To NYR- Miller, Belanger.

is it fair? Close?

From a Kings point of view, I think I would rather hold onto Miller and Ebel as I dont think Tom Poti is even close to what the Kings are looking for right now. I think NY probably comes out on top of this trade. I would personally like to hold on to Miller and see if he can have a rebound year from last year...maybe by trade deadline time we cut him loose if we are not in a playoff position, as for Belanger..I see him as being expendable.

If you want a Potiesque player, why did we let Modry walk?

Let's not forget that Miller's big contract is really going to limit his market value.

Not saying it doesn't, but Poti only makes $150,000 less.

Anyone know the amount of years for both?

Well, at this point the Kings are about 8 million underbudget even with his contract.

Caveat-I'm not sure of the Kings budget for next season. However, since Taylor became GM it has been 40 million or a little more.

As I Ranger fan I like the deal, but I hate giving up draft picks at this point. Take out the third and take out whatever you want from LA's end to even it out and I do the deal without hesitation.

Poor Return for Rangers

No way from a Rangers perspective. Poti is worth more than an injury-prone Aaron Miller and pedestrian Belanger. With all of the prospects the kings have, why would the Rangers want these guys? Now, if you want to do Poti for Cammalieri or Poti for Holland, perhaps you have the basis for a deal.

Doesn't Aaron Miller have nearly $10 million remaining on his contract over three years.Tom Poti has one year at $3.1 million and the Rangers could get rid of that salary by non-tendering him next summer. The Rangers already have one overpaid defenseman in Darius Kasparaitis. They don't need another one.Miller is coming two injury plagued years.

I wouldn't do the original deal as I've never liked Poti and don't believe he's worth giving up both Belanger and Miller.

However, if you want to talk about a trade centering around Poti for Holland I'd be all ears. I mean Jason's only been a journeyman for the first 7 years of his career. Who knows what the next 7 will hold?

Worst D-man in the game

Poti is horrible. I would trade Poti for a 6 pack of beer.

I'm personally of the opinion that both Poti and Miller are somewhat overpaid, but I'd gladly take Miller's solid defensive play and injury history over Poti's indifferent defensive play, and for what amounts to essentially the same amount of money for each player (Miller at $3.25M and Poti at $3.1M), particularly as both of these teams have created payroll room elsewhere on the roster.

I might be a minority here but I think that Miler is over the hill and is not a smooth skater by any stretch of the imagination. POti might be a liability in his own end from time to time, but he's got a betrter toolset and is a lot younger than Miller. Of course Poti is not physical and that's frustrating, but in a normal offensive year he will bring more points that he'll cost.

He need to be paired with a good physical defensive guy, and then he won't hurt you ands will be usefull. I say that these guy would be beter on the same team and would help each other. Or put Poti with Kasparaitis and let's see what appends

I wouldn't do it if I was the Rangers but would for the Kings

Thinking about it more I'd definately like to do a deal with Poti, Miller, and Belanger the centerpieces. As much as I may dislike Poti, a Poti for Holland deal isn't worthwhile for us. Frustrating as he may be, Poti is still a top four d-man. In terms of overall ability, Miller>Poti, but contract length and more importantly injury problems seriously lower his value. Like I said before, since the Rangers are in full rebuild mode sacrificing draft picks really isn't an option.

Poti + M.Green or Betts
for
Miller + Belanger

?

Miller and Avery

Avery is a pest. He is fun to watch and has decent skills.

Miller tends to be slightly overrated on this board, and he has had recent injury problems, and he is not a great skater. But, he is still a solid defensive dman that could help most teams in the NHL.

I am a Ranger fan and i would do this trade but maybe also change somethings around:
I wanna get rid of Poti but not a draft pick
Maybe switch the third pick for rachunek or someone else...you know

Blah Blah Blah I don't know

There must be a reason why Aaron Miller has been selected to represent the US the past couple of major international tournaments (the Olymics and the World Cup).

He is very similar in style to Keith Carney of the Ducks or Jason Smith of the Oilers. The Ducks also paid a hefty price to retain, and is a valuable asset to any club. Considering what Kasparitis got, as well as de Vries and Klemm at that time, the Kings had no other choice but to re-sign Norstrom and Miller to long term deals.

If he can remain healthy, he is worth the money, and he proved it to us the last healthy season he had.

As for the originally proposed deal... no thanks from the Kings. Why deal a reasonably valuable 3rd line checking center who can chip in offensively and defensive d-man like Aaron Miller for a liability on the ice. The Kings already have something similar in Corvo, so Tom Poti is not a necessity for the Kings.

You'll have a tough time prying Avery away from LA. You'd have to overpay to do it, and quite frankly, it wouldn't be worth it. Purinton is waiver fodder at this point too.

Because you're intrigued by Poti's offensive potential?

That's how he fooled Sather...twice.
