I was going to say the same thing, with a healthy lineup....we could roll 3 legit scoring lines if Da Costa is in the lineup. MacLean seems to really like the idea of having 2 checking lines instead though.

Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't Michalek a natural RW & Filatov a natural LW??? I don't surmise to know more than the coachin staff but wouldn't it make mroe sense to roll Filatov-Spezza-Michalek instead of the above. Otherwise I'm happy with that lineup

It truly angers me that Da Costa isn't playing.

Wait a minute, this is news to me.

Why the hell isn't Da Costa playing?

Easily one of our best players in pre-season.

Well, I was just looking at the lineups that were posted on the previous page, and according to Shanny (at least that's the reaction I got):

Quote:
The lines for Friday pending Regin's injury have already been decided:

Michalek-Spezza-Filatov
Greening-Zibanejad-Alfie
Foligno-Smith-Neil
Condra-Konopka-Butler
I don't know if Shanny was just saying that's what he thought, or that there was some concrete evidence of Friday's lineup.

It's one game. Chances are he'll be playing the next night against Toronto, or another forward could get hurt in the next three days.

So it's been established as fact that Butler felt too secure and just decided to take the pre-season off?

We've seen these inconsistent stretches before from Butler. He didn't score in his first nine games with the Sens last year, then got hot and proceeded to tear it up beside Spezza. There were a few more 3- and 4-game stretches where he was held pointless, before rattling off 6 or 7 points in the next 4 games.

He's a streaky player. He'll get his chances in the top 6, otherwise there's basically no point in having him in the lineup.

Shanny was going by MacLean's lines at practice the last few days

It's not that I'm angry or anything, it just doesn't make sense for a player like Da Costa to be out of the lineup when he has played so well this year.

Apparently Konopka is better than him.

People tend to forget that goal scorers tend to be streaky. Especially coming into the league. I agree that Butler shouldn't automatically get to play on Spezza's wing, he obviously had a poornpre-season, but don't be surprised to see him there soon enough.

That's what I'm saying - if he's not with Spezza, he's not going to produce anywhere near how he did last year.

There comes a point where you have to stop disciplining a player for supposedly not giving his best effort (ie. putting Butler on the 4th line or in the press box) and start putting the player/the team in the best position to succeed (ie. putting Butler on Spezza's wing).

That's not how it works. Da Costa can't play the role Konopka was signed to play here. He'll have to wait his turn in all likelihood.

For those not paying attention, the only reason that Da Costa is still here is because they're still unsure about Regin. If Regin returns, they need to drop someone from the roster in order to get to 23 man maximum. That's Da Costa. Since Regin is on track to return for this weekend, Da Costa will almost assuredly be sent down before then.

That's probably your best reason why he's not lining up with the main lines in practice, the Sens know he's only here for a couple more days (at least for now).

Did no one pay attention the cuts on the weekend and understand that they weren't finished with them yet?

Figure you have it correct. DaCosta will be the callup; Zibanejad has made the team. Regin as well.

Konopka was the extra today, hopefully we see these lines again tomorrow although I wouldnt mind seeing Neil switched with Condra or Butler.

You think Konopka is better suited to play on a line with Condra and Butler? I don't.

Konopka is better suited then Da Costa to play the role of the energy 4th line center/agitator/enforcer/PK and faceoff specialist.

Also, Regin was skating today with a no contact jersey on. Was playing keep away with Alfie for about 15 minutes.

Oh god Foligno with DaCosta.

There goes DaCosta's offensive numbers.

Foligno on a 2-1, falls down loses the puck.
DaCosta passes to foligno in a breakaway, misses the net.
Dacosta passes to Foligno in the PP, Foligno goes in the boards, cycles with himself, trips and falls down, loses the puck, the puck is back at our net.

Foligno, the offence killer.

unfortunately it's pretty true. He reminds of Charlie Conway in the first Mighty Ducks movie. "It's spaz way, he's gonna mess up"

What's with all the Foligno hate? Ya he fell down a few times in PRESEASON, now everyone wants him off the team?

Nicky has been tumbling all over the place since he was drafted.
