David Booth is looking like he'll be ready to go in early January. Recovery ahead of schedule. #canucks

I know HFF has had some hits before but he's had quite a few misses lately.

It is all about development and minutes. On 14 Dec 2011 on TEAM 1040 Gillis said this about Tanev and why he is in the AHL:

“Our plan was to have him play the entire year in the minors last year. Often times you see a young defenceman come into the NHL and they maintain, they don’t continue to develop. Chris is going to be a long-term NHL player with the potential to be a power-play quarterback, has the potential to play in every situation. On this team right now he wasn’t going to play in every situation. If you want to develop players to do that, they’ve got to do it, they can’t sit there and watch it.

“Chris is playing 25 minutes a night … he’s one of the top three or four young defencemen in the American Hockey League, he’s going to be back here with us and he’s going to be back here to play a bigger role.”

Rome out 3-4 weeks with a broken thumb.

edit: And Ballard out tonight with back spasms, both according to Murph's twitter.

Best case scenario, we go in, play between the whistles, get 2 points and get out.

I don't know why some of you are looking forward to it so much, beating them in the regular season isn't going to prove anything.

but yes, if Booth is healthy by then, by all means put him in there.
Pretty much this, but 2 points in regulation/OT would help in that we'd know we can skate with them and win in that building. There's no way we're going to come out on top with the way the media is going to portray. Much rather just get the win and still have everyone healthy afterwards.

Hope Tanev's ok.

There is no such current rule that states you can't trade a player back to the same team in the same year. It was not allowed under the old CBA however. The NHL did not want teams shielding players before the waiver draft back then.

Oh, and I almost forgot Edler.

Apparently back injuries are the soup du jour in Vancouver.

Have we seen a team in the new CBA acquire a player they traded earlier that year??

It's pretty rare for a pro athlete (let alone any active person) to not have a back issue. Most are dealt with at the professional level with daily physio/training/massage, etc.

A bit of an 'update' from David Booth on Twitter.

Says he's pushing to be ok to take on his old Panther squad on Jan 9th.

D_Booth7 David Booth
Wish I was playing vs my hometown redwings tonight. Pushing to get back to take on @ellerby88 @JackSkille and the #cats jan9!

Also, according to ben Kuzma, Booth was playing soccer with the Sedins today. Not a bad sign...

benkuzma Ben Kuzma
Hard to say. Was spotted playing soccer with Sedins in hallway. Good sign. RT @hockey365_ Any update on how Booth is progressing?

Ben Kuzma wonders if Ballard's back woes are more than a muscle strain.

Saw Ballard walking gingerly in hallway after morning skate. His spasms have moved from lower back to middle back. AV says it's muscular, but you have to wonder if something is bulging back there.

Does anyone know if Edler has a history of back spasms? I know that when the back is inflamed, its at more risk for a tear, and will usually only get better with rest, so I wouldn't be surprised to see Edler on lockdown for a week or two.

Edler had surgery on his back last January for a disc problem (the procedure was a micro discectomy).

http://www.cbc.ca/sports/hockey/stor...r-surgery.html

He missed 31 games and returned to the line up on 07 April 2011

It was not as complicated as Daniel Sedin's back surgery in 2001 but as with such operations there is a chance of ongoing problems that may require rest if the back flares up. Hopefully not too serious.

We should get a special person to message the Canucks backs while they sit on the bench during play...

What's Kyle Wellwood doing these days? This seems like it'd be right up his alley.
