Montreal-Winnipeg

Montreal send Yannick Weber

Winnipeg Sends Patrice Cormier

Habs won't use weber on D he has been pegged for the wing to start the season. Stated by Jaques Martin himself in interview.

Montreal when Markov is healthy will need to ship out somebody from the backend.

Habs also have a contraversy who will start the season as 4th line center? Well Engvquist was supposed to however he has proved nothing much this preseason besides the fact he should start in ahl.

Trade makes sence for Montreal.

Does it makes sence for Winnipeg? Not sure what winnipegs needs are.

These two teams have been rumored of been in talks over the past summer.

To me value is fair

Winnipeg would be more inclined to trade away a defenceman.

Weber doesn't really help Winnepeg.

And they seeme hifh on Cormier, who will be a more usefull player anyway. Players like Weber come in masses.

Winnepeg passes this deal.

Weber has more NHL experince but he's still unproven as a full-time defensmen in the NHL. I don't think a Weber-Cormier swap makes Winnipeg a better team right now or in the futur.

There's no incentitive for the Jets to do this as they have a bunch a 5th, 6th 7th level defensman in the system (Jones, Postma, Stuart, Oduya). Montreal would have to offer a different player to get Winnipeg listening IMO.

Honestly valuewise to me is fair but I had no idea of jets messa making this proposal. But cormier would be an attractive piece for Montreal

Ok for me as a Habs fan. They need somebody who plays on the edge like Cormier. Whereas Weber, while decent, has yet to show conclusively that he's going to really make a difference.

IMO Weber has the higher end potential, but Cormier has a better chance of becoming a usefull NHL player. Really depends on needs and whether the Jets would try to stay safe or not.

From a Habs perspective I'd do it only if the organization has confidence in Diaz becoming an NHL regular.

Value wise it's decent. But the Jets have waaay too much depth at D already. Especially D of the offensive variety.

No reason the Jets do this. We have more than enough d-men as. We need a top 6 forward that's not Gomez.

There was interest by our fan base, but we don't want to give up what it could take to get him. Plus his reputation doesn't fit with what the Jets organization wants. He's got talent, but his character issues and lack of consistent effort makes him a no go.

Yeah, I get what your saying.

He'll hit UFA status at the season end, surely, he will be motivated to have a career year. The reason I mentionned him is because the relation between him and Martin is maybe a little edgy. Also, he could end up playing on the 3rd line (our top 4 wingers are Cammy, Gionta, Max Pac and Cole). That situation could make him moody. If Montreal management don't feel like dealing with that kind of distraction, Kostitsyn's value could go down.

Under those circonstances, if a team needs a short term fix (1 season) on the top 2 lines, Kostitsyn could be a nice pickup for less than his actual market value.

IMO, you're selling Oduya short here. He's much better than the other 3 on that list.

That said, you've nailed the problem with Weber's trade value. Almost every team has a bunch of #5-6-7 d-men, and those who do not, already have a few young guys that are NHL-ready (or close to it) and are looking for a veteran. So Weber's trade value is limited.

I'd rather keep Weber and trade in a bigger deal or to move up in the next draft.

Value-wise it's probably fair, but we need Cormier a lot more than we need another offensive defenseman.
