Weber is out. It's pretty obvious.

I love it! You can never have enough defeman in this league. Worse comes to worse we trade a prospect for a pick or a depth forward.

The patching starts early this season.
Maybe but it didn't cost us a 2nd.

We have cap room people complain cause we don't spend

We trade a pick people complain cause it's a great draft

I don't think Weber has been awful... His first game he kicked ass, and since then he's been average. He's being paired with young players too so it's definitely not helping him look good.

I like the signing

Please, stop talking about Diaz. He is awful and will play in the AHL all year long. He is in the same category as St-Denis, Mitera and Fitzgerald for me...

I imagine Woywitka and Mitera didn't do nearly enough to justify an NHL paycheck, and Weber and Emelin from all accounts have not done enough to make anyone terribly impressed with them either.

So with Markov hurt, the depth chart is:

Subban
Gorges
Gill
Spacek
Campoli
Weber
Emelin

...and Woywitka, Diaz and Mitera end up in the AHL.

Bad news for Emelin or Weber if everyone gets healthy though. Might be one of those cases where Weber ends up playing out the year as a forward if everyone is OK.

IMO, the Campoli move is an indictment on guys like Woywitka, Mitera...maybe even Weber.

Campoli is just a depth dman, he's not here to replace anyone who could play in the top 4.

Have you guys been watching the Habs defense this preseason? They look putrid lol
With Markov out the team would only have Subban who can work the PP on D, and to a lesser extent Spacek. If the Habs were looking for depth at that position, given the guys we already have on our roster with a healthy Markov, Campoli would be way down my list of players to sign.

Elliotte Friedman is also reporting this deal came together very quickly, add that to the fact that Campoli got more than compensated for the mediocre season he had last year and it seems like the Habs are reacting to something rather than being proactive.

I really hope your sage objectivity is right. My first reaction -- like others -- is that this is a reaction to bad news.

No denying the defense has been an uncoordinated mess, though half the time it's an untested prospect making the mess. But... and here's a thought... maybe the reason we've been seeing an endless stream of teenaged plugs is precisely because the front-four have sprung a leak. Yes, it's back to paranoia, but maybe we're seeing so much Beaulieu and Woywitka because we're going to see so little Markov or Subban.

I hope my fellow paranoids are wrong, but there's no other logical explanation for this deal.

Seriously...it's really ridiculous. It's pretty obvious that the Canadiens are damned if they do and damned if they don't, the way some people here react.

Agreed...but I don't see the tie into Markov.

Nothing has changed in terms of Markov's return, there was never a set date for him to return and the healing process for a 2nd ACL surgery is 12 months, which puts him right on track.

I think this might be related to another roster move or just PG hedging his bets...but i'd bet on the former.

Apparently Weber clearly not impressed at all Martin and PG, (same for me in fact), and Diaz need some time in AHL. As for Wowytka, he's nothing more than a 7/8th dman. But i fear it really looks bad for Markov......

After having a season with MAB Campoli is a great complimentary 6th D. Could mean Woywitka is AHL fodder, Spacek might be done, Markov & Subban might be injured.

Gionta, Pacioretty, Cammalleri, Campoli. Looks like a Serie A roster.

Good addition.

Or, they are playing "teenaged plugs" because that's pretty much what happen in every camp.

I'm not complaining that they are "patching", if that's what you meant. I'm just kinda discourage that they actually had to do this so early; in other words, we already have to manage injuries.

Campoli : not a great defensive dman, not a great puck moving dman.... an average guy.... Whether Subban injury is serious, whether we won't see Markov for a long time....

i love fellow hab fans and the wild speculation.

couple of things-
markov is clearly not ready and weber / spacek has not impressed on the pp - or anywhere on the ice for that matter..
subban can't play power play alone.
yemelin is here to stay.
as mentioned this is a note to spacek / weber one of whom, i expect to get dealt for a center with eller and DD not ready.
and as mentioned we cannot have enough d men after what happened last year.
rather sign him now than give away a 2nd at the deadline

ps and who's to say campoli wasn't waiting for an offer from a playoff team and not a crap hockey market wanting to make the salary floor?

Oh look people overreacting for a player that didn't cost an asset to acquire and one that hasn't even played yet. And look its the typical posters starting up the fear-mongering.
