Should Avery get arrested for threatening to kill Giroux?

Players say things all the time without the mic picking it up
If anyone gets offended by it, it is the broadcaster's fault, not the players.

I am not saying he should be fined, cause I would say the same things if I still played. And yes I know hockey is different, but when mic's catch these sort of things during other sports, fines would follow.

OP was just asking the question.

Same slur cost Kobe Bryant 100k. Only difference was he said it to a ref and NBA fines tend to be more severe.

**** like this happens in every league, in every game, with almost every player.

It's called trash-talking, being in the moment, and being generally competitive.

You need to stop watching hockey if this bothers you.

I'd love if someone could do a full summary, in bullet point format, of all the crazy trash talking you guys are hearing on the VS broadcast for all of us watching on MSG.

I can't spell. I admit that.

I hope ABSOLUTELY nothing comes of this....I mean in some utopia these words will never exist, but when they're uttered on the playing field they're derogatory for the sake of being derogatory...I'd assume there is no malice...
But because "F" name doesn't offend a person, it's okay to use it? Would Simmonds (or anyone else) have pitched a fit because someone used the "N" word in the heat of the moment?

Seems like a bit of a double-standard to me... you can either cry foul for both things, or you can do so for neither. Both words are offensive to certain groups of people. Just because the "F" name is commonly used in modern vernacular doesn't make it right -- hell, not so long ago, the "N" word was in common use.

Yes PLEASE

either way I don't see this as a big issue..didn't Wisniewski only get a fine for his BJ motion? Can't give Simmonds any more than that..

The NHL should be fined for allowing a player who spends his summers interning for a fashion magazine to continue to play in the league

The way ****** is used is not an insult to gay people. Words evolve. If he called him a fanny bandit that would be bad, but ******...? Thats likely very widely used. Its used to insult a cocky, self absorbed jerk, not a man who is attracted to other men... for the most part at least.

the "F" name's definition and use has evolved beyond gay people and is used as synonym for someone who is being a total ass. the "N" word has not become anything but a racial slur for black people.

It confuses me as to how a fan of a sport like hockey could get offended by this. You happily watch people beat eachothers faces in game in-game out, but one borderline offensive slur from one player to another and your eyes are welling up?

Boohoo

I know.

We should make the game like the world was in Demolition Man. Now hear me out. We will have an electronic version of a swear jar. Every player will be mic'd with word recognition technology involved. Every curse, every insult, every derogatory term would automatically pull money out of their bank accounts.

Not sure what the money would be used for. Perhaps buying diapers and tissues for all of you over sensitive whiny children.
