Tor - Dal

To Toronto:

Loui Eriksson

To Dallas

Phil Kessel
Jake Gardiner

I'm a huge Eriksson fan... would trade Kessel for him. I'm not a Kessel hater by any means and I certainly don't speak for my fan base when throwing him into a proposal but Kulemin and Eriksson would run this team up front. Leafs could add in one of there surplus of young d-man. It wouldn't be Schenn or Phaneuf but someone like Franson, Gunnarson or Gardiner? Gardiner is really impressing right now in leaf camp. Stars also get a right winger for there top line who is always in the discussion to be a top 10 goal scorer.

This wouldn't happen, Burke gave up way to much for Kessel just to trade him later.

I bet if he offered 2 firsts and a 2nd for Eriksson they would've took it as well.

Can't see Dallas wanting to do this trade.

Yeah as said no from both sides. Dallas has Eriksson locked up long term and a very cap friendly hit and his style of play suits the Stars offense much moreso than Kessel's does. Leafs won't be giving up on Kessel as he is easily marketable and provides instant offensive on a team that has lacked it. Futhermore, they dealt away a lot for him and Burke has been scrutinized heavily for it.

From a Leafs point of view, I'd say it's more Gardiner being included in the deal that makes the Leafs not want to do it.

I wouldn't either, especially losing Gardiner who looks like he will be a top pairing d-man... or a good # 3. but when I look at teams that win like Detroit they win with players like Zetterberg, Franzen, Datsyuk and it makes you think twice... Eriksson, Kulemin are the type of players I want on my team. I value Kulemin > Kessel as well as Eriksson > Kessel. They won't score as many goals but there overall game is better.

You win games by scoring goals, no?

I'd prefer Eriksson over Kessel but both side's would say no to this.

Also Chicago had a pretty dynamite offensive first player and they won the cup.

Why would Dallas trade the established player and the pick for two unproven prospects?

So you'd do Kessel for Eriksson straight up?

I wouldn't from a Stars perspective.

You win games by scoring goals but you win championships with scoring goals and playing strong defense. If your referring to Kane he is better defensively then Kessel. Not saying we can't win with Kessel, I'm happy with Kessel but I would trade him for the player who brings more to the table.

Kane is better offensively and defensively. I'm just saying they're both offensive first guys. And of course you win championships by doing 2 things instead of 1. The best defense is a good offense. I honestly don't think their is a set strategy for winning a cup. It could be deep center depth, a goalie performing on his head, or any strategy. That's just my opinion though.

Well of course I'd go for that, but I wasn't suggesting a straight up trade. I was just saying that the Leafs are very high on Gardiner and probably think adding him specifically to the deal would be too much. It would still need to be Kessel+, just not Gardiner as the +.

I wouldn't have thought that a Leafs fan would do Kessel straight up for Eriksson, that's all. I get where you are coming from now, though.

Nahh. Kessel doesn't fit with us and Burke doesn't make this trade either.

After loving the trade to get Gardiner from the Ducks to finally seeing him in person play against the Sabres last night, no way jose. Jake was the best player on the ice last night by far on either team and Kessel has more raw talent than Ericcson so sorry charlie, no go.

Gross trade, from the Leafs side. Trade away one of the best wrist shots in the NHL and a very promising prospect in Gardiner, for Eriksson. No thanks.

If it were possible to get Eriksson for Kessel straight up, I'd do it in a nano-second.

Unfortunately, that's not possible as the Leafs would have to add something to their side of the deal. I'd just rather that "something" not be Gardiner as he's been showing some interesting promise as of late. Plus, Gardiner will likely be needed on the Leafs' blue-line next season (2012-2013).

As to who/what that "something" could end up being.. I don't know.
